Fox Announces Programming for the 2017/2018 Season

24: Legacy, Empire, Gotham, Lucifer, New Girl, News, Pinned, The Mick, The Resident

From a proper ending for New Girl to the return of such series as Gotham, Empire, and The Mick, there’s a lot to look forward to from Fox for the upcoming television season.

This morning, Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEO’s of Fox Television Group, announced the line-up for the 2017/2018 season, which includes several new series as well as more returning series than the network has had in a decade.

Some of the new series include The Gifted, which is the first Marvel show for the network, Seth Macfarlane’s The Orville, and the medical drama, The Resident, and workplace comedy LA to Vegas.

Gary Newman, Chairman & CEO of Fox Television Group, said the network is excited about The Resident because “it’s a distinctive medical drama,” and that the network has been looking for something like this since the end of House.

The network is also bringing back another installment of The X-Files.

As for New Girl, the comedy has been renewed for a final farewell season. Gary Newman said this was important because they “wanted to give it and its loyal fans the ending it deserves.”

Missing from the list of new series is previously announced pilot Linda from HR, which stars Lauren Graham.

Though it’s not currently on the schedule, it’s still possible for that pilot to go to series with Fox. “Linda from HR is definitely still in consideration.”

Also missing is 24: Legacy, which Newman stated was “very much still in the mix.” The only reason it’s not currently on the schedule is due to scheduling conflicts with star Cory Hawkins, who is currently on Broadway.

Another show you might notice isn’t on the schedule this year is Scream Queens. “We won’t be seeing scream queens this season,” Newman confirmed.

Fox will also air two live musical events: A Christmas Story and Rent.

Dramas 9-1-1 and The Resident, along with the new comedy series LA to Vegas, will premiere mid-season.
