NBC Moves ‘This is Us’ to Thursday Nights
Your fall viewing might get a little conflicted on Thursday nights.
NBC announced on Sunday that it will introduce a new line-up to Thursday nights this fall, in the hopes of bringing back “Must-See TV.”
The New York Times reports that NBC will pair This is Us with the Will & Grace revival they announced in February, and then rounding out the night with Law and Order: True Crime: The Menendez Murders.

This is Us finished the 2016-2017 season as the second-highest-rated scripted show on Broadcast television. The show’s move to Thursdays is speculated to compete against the TGIT lineup on ABC.
Years ago, NBC used to rule Thursday night television with shows like E.R., Friends, and Seinfeld, and they marketed it as “Must-See TV.”
It’s suspected that this move might be because NBC smell’s blood in the water as Variety reported that both Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder saw a midseason sag in their ratings in early 2016.

But Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder may not be out of the game just yet.
A year later, Scandal saw a bump in the ratings with the airing of their 100th episode Scandal Season 6 Episode 10 “The Decision,” with the International Business Times reporting that the episode grabbed the attention of 5.3 million viewers.

Meanwhile, Deadline reports that How to Get Away with Murder Season 3 Episodes 14 and 15 “Aren’t Parents Just the Worst” saw a 15% ratings jump in key demographics.
Meanwhile, This is Us, whose previous time slot was Tuesdays at 9pm on NBC where it saw a steady ratings climb. Deadline reported a 13% ratings rise for its finale This is Us Season 1 Episode 18 “Moonshadow” over its penultimate episode Season 1 Episode 17 “What Now?”
So with powerhouse shows on both ABC and NBC, who will ultimately come out on top?
