17 Best TV Dramas from 2016
13. NCIS: Los Angeles

NCIS: Los Angeles is the type of procedural that you love even if you hate the genre, strictly on the strength of its characters.
And this year, the show has done us one better — it’s also become the standard in how to tell a disability story correctly, how to write an OTP without writing a co-dependent female character and how to write a show without making it all about the OTP. Talk about balance!
14. Suits

Suits Season 6 shakes things up a bit by showing Mike in jail, serving his sentence for posing as a lawyer. Although his release should have allowed the season to end on a high note, Jessica’s departure from the firm bummed out Harvey as much as it did the fans.
But at least Harvey and Donna shippers got that final shot of the pair holding hands.
15. Grey’s Anatomy
Yes, even though Grey’s Anatomy is still on the air after 13 years, it still makes our list as a favorite TV drama. In fact, Seasons 12 and 13 have been two of the strongest in the show’s recent years as it’s shifted its focus back to Meredith and taken some pretty significant risks.
16. The Crown

The Crown is perhaps the most interesting drama you will ever watch where almost nothing ever happens. The writing, pacing and acting in this Netflix original about the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign will keep you glued to your screen, even if you’re just spending an hour watching an episode where everyone is wondering if the fog will lift.
17. Scandal
The fifth season of Scandal finally gave us Fitz and Olivia as a couple, but it was so boring it drove her right back into the arms of Jake, his gorgeous abs, and ultimately, Rowan’s control.
As things heated up with the presidential election things got back to being batshit crazy — which is just how they should be.
With all of the amazing shows that aired this year, what were your favorites? What show are you most excited to see return in 2017? Who are you rooting for during awards season? Let us know in the comments!
