The Last Ship Review: Paradise (Season 3 Episode 9)
There’s just no beating The Last Ship when it comes to suspense. It’s what the show excels at — action packed scenes that leave you on the edge of your seat.
“Paradise” gets your blood pumping as you watch Kara put the pieces together moments before the Nathan James and two other ships are attacked.
Did anyone else love watching The Nathan James team up with other vessels? I’m not sure if this has ever happened before.
It is a lot of fun to watch all the Captains interact with each other, and even though it ended terribly, I hope to see more team ups like this in the future. Is anyone else wondering how the Nathan James is going to fit all those new bodies on the ship?
Takehaya is probably my favorite addition to this season, which is amazing when you think about our first introduction to him. He has managed to make himself useful because he knows these seas well, as a pirate should.
I’m also really loving Mike’s newfound respect for him. He calls Takehaya, “Captain,” and it makes my heart happy.
This man kidnapped Mike and members of his crew. Takehaya used them as blood bags.
The fact that Mike stands up for Takehaya and calls him, “Captain,” is huge. It speaks volumes to Mike’s character, and I really hope we get to explore their relationship further.

I haven’t been a fan of the scenes in St. Louis, but this time around, they are actually really captivating. Kara gets a chance to shine, which is amazing.
The distortion has been an issue ever since the beginning of this season, and Dennis and Kara finally manage to crack it.
The twist that the distortion is coming from inside the building is nicely done. It reminds me of the, “the call is coming from inside the house,” line that happens in horror movies.
It’s shocking and makes you genuinely concerned for everyone in the building. If you can’t trust the people in the White House, who can you trust? The answer is obviously the crew of the Nathan James, but you knew that.
One thing I don’t understand is how helping Peng fits in with Alison’s view that America cannot be governed by one body. She, as well as the other senators, believe that it should be every region for themselves, and that’s why the coup happens.
Alison: Face it Howard, democracy is a luxury that we can no longer afford.
I get that, but why do they need to help China to do it? How does killing American sailors further their objective?
Not only that, but Alison and company don’t seem to care that Peng is using his anti-cure to commit acts of genocide.
Based on prior meetings with the senators and President Michener, you can kind of understand why Alison and the senators believe that things would be better if it was every region for themselves. I’m just not seeing how helping Peng fits into this.
Right now, this aspect of the coup does not make sense. There has to be more to this story, and we need to learn what it is ASAP. What’s your theory?
