Quantico Review: Guilty (Season 1 Episode 9)

Quantico, Reviews

Remember that one time that Shelby looked around the room, sadly, and exclaimed that this might be the last time they were all in the same room? Yeah, so do I.

Wow, I am so glad she was wrong!

This episode of Quantico entitled “Guilty” does exactly that. It puts our favorite squad back together, in HQ as they try to save Alex.

And who brings them together? Elias.

I’d honestly be okay with Elias hanging out as a regular on Quantico. He seems to be calm, and collected and the glue that these new agents need in order to bring them together for the greater good.

The greater good entails getting Alex out of the super secret torture chamber she is taken to for more information regarding the bomb.

“Guilty” isn’t my favorite episode to day, but it does a whole lot for plot development. Not only do we get to see our teamwork together — in the present — but it sets up so many plot points for the future.

One noticeable point being: Alex and Liam.

Remember in the pilot, when Miranda dropped some bars on Liam and asked him that when he looks at Alex whom does he see? “The recruit you fell in love with, or the terrorist that rejected you?” That line has stuck with me throughout the series so far. I have been grasping at straws trying to see when Liam decided to care about her, but up until this episode it’s been nothing but hostility.

But this episode…

This episode starts to finally allude to why and how Liam finds himself in love with Alex Parrish. My guess is that the two will grow a lot closer now that Ryan is out of the picture- which, whatever; I started to care less about him the second he started to get insecure, and jealous about Alex worrying about her superior (which is all he is right now).

Another point being: Simon.

We already know he gets kicked out of Quantico. But why, exactly? We see Simon uncover that Dr. Susan Langdon falsified evidence in order to catch a murderer. So, he tells the cops—and man, are his classmates upset with him. It was a very ‘gray’ area of the law, and I thought it brought up an interesting debate about how the government is run. Should we keep a known killer in jail despite evidence being falsified? Or, should he be set free because he was never supposed to be in jail in the first place?

Either way, when what seems like every person in Quantico goes against Simon’s beliefs, he calls up his old friends, and gives a very scary, threatening rant about why he hates the FBI.

This scene in particular makes me think the writers are trying too hard to make us think that Simon is the terrorist. My cards right now, are one Dr. Susan Langdon.

The episode ends with Team Alex rescuing her, and a tortured Ryan from the creepy cave of torture, and Liam apologizing to her for taking so long to believe her. And here’s where it gets a bit weird: he tells her that if they play like she’s in custody, they can catch the real terrorists.

I’m not saying it’s not a good plan… I’m saying: Hello! Have you not seen The Departed?!

So much can go wrong here, Liam! So. Much.

The last word Alex says, as the judge lists off each account she is being tried for, is “guilty.”

And, I am left speechless.
