Will Trent Season 4 Episode 3 Review: Studio 4B

Reviews, Will Trent

A little lighthearted rendezvous rules the day in this casual, sexy outing for Will. Will investigates a murder that leads him to a past flirtation. It’s all action as he explores a forgotten connection in Will Trent Season 4 Episode 3, “Studio 4B.”

Will tends to have a flirty aura, so it comes off naturally when he begins to reconnect with Ava. This leads to not a new permanent love interest but a promise for something more down the line.

Ava adds some lightness to Will’s life. She’s fun and free in a way that some of his other past love interests were not. We want to see this connection grow, but it doesn’t seem like one built to last.

That’s okay. As Ava states, “not everything has to be serious.” This isn’t his next great love story, but a fun fling to help him get over Angie and  wait for the next love story.

This is a fun departure, as we haven’t seen much from Will in the romance department since Marion’s swift exit. Will deserves love, and we hope that becomes a part of his journey in Season 4.

The Marion and Will’s stuff never fully developed into something fans could root for or get behind too much. It starts well, but then the show kind of drops the ball. Ava represents hope for a better romantic future for Will.

His destiny doesn’t include pining over Angie for eternity. He will find love again.

Additionally, despite my wishes, it doesn’t seem like the Angie and Will saga’s door has been shut. That likely gets a new chapter this year – maybe raising her child once Seth disappears as quickly as Marion – unfortunately.

Overall, “Studio 4B” is a very entertaining episode. The mystery about the murdered girl and her photographer killer grows darker but remains interesting throughout. We know what’s up the minute we spot film legend Cathy Moriarty.

We know she’s the culprit. Despite this predictability, it’s all still fun and frivolous. This pairs nicely with the equally entertaining case of the neighbor in danger.

This time, Betty earns her treats as the lead detective in this case. Ormewood continues to stand out as the silly man we have come to love.

However, his recovery process makes us worry that he won’t last forever on Will Trent. Don’t take Ormewood away from us now that we’ve grown so attached to him.

His side quests have become a major highlight in Will Trent. The whole slow chase scene is hilarious.

No matter how intense the show gets, comedy reigns supreme. We need these lighter moments in a police procedural. Ormewood delivers them.

His family also continues to provide some entertaining additions to the show. How they keep ending up in danger really should make his ex-wife fight for custody. However, let’s not add realism and logic to Will Trent.

We like it as it is – bordering on fantasy.

“Studio 4B” only slightly moves the season-long arc along because it feels more standalone, but it sets up some entertaining future storylines. It’s also giving us some more brightness after Season 3 went so dark.

We know the ghosts of that season may make a return, but for now, we accept any Ormewood slow chase scenes that Will Trent gives us. More of them.
