Will Trent Season 4 Episode 12 Review: I Hear It Now, I Was Good

Reviews, Will Trent

The quest to find Uncle Antonio amplifies. Those who go into Will Trent Season 4 Episode 12, “I Hear It Now, I Was Good,” expecting a resolution to the Adelaide storyline will sadly face disappointment.

The show may drag this storyline out for the rest of the season. It’s better for this decision.

Will Trent is an underrated series that doesn’t receive enough praise and attention for its writing, acting, directing, and so forth. However, it’s not a flawless TV show.

Season 4 has been a mixed bag, but nothing spectacular until now. The introduction of Adelaide breathes fresh life into an entertaining but not enthralling season.

Adelaide gives it some stakes, drama, and intensity. It needs her. You truly feel like the season could go anywhere with this surprising development.

This becomes apparent when “I Hear It Now, I Was Good” doesn’t resolve Antonio’s kidnapping, but instead, Will edges closer to finding her. However, some intriguing new characters may disrupt his quest — including a kid that Adelaide has been exploiting.

If you ever doubted the darkness within this character, seeing a child she uses confirms her true evil capabilities. She is her father’s daughter.

Antonio’s kidnapping doesn’t take as much center stage in this episode as one would expect.

We get little pieces here and there, but Will is forced to take a break, so he must relax, and the story reflects this by leaning heavier into the Ormewood, Franklin crime of the week.

However, Ramon Rodriguez gets another chance to highlight his expert acting abilities. His transformation into the James Ulster version of Will is magnificent. He incorporates so many of Greg Germann’s mannerisms as this character.

You feel like you’re watching Ulster, not Will.

Ormewood, Franklin, and Angie remain the trio of comedy, but “ I Hear It Now, I Was Good” highlights Franklin beyond his funny (or not funny, according to his ex) abilities. We learn about his desire to become a parent.

We didn’t necessarily need to know this about him, but it shows that Will Trent is investing in this character in the long term. He may even become a series regular eventually.

JANINA GAVANKAR
WILL TRENT –  Janina Gavankar (Disney/Wilford Harewood)

This episode once again highlights that Season 4 is more about the people around Will than him. These characters are getting stand-out moments and episodes dedicated to them.

Come for Will, stay for the brilliant cast of characters.

Franklin’s story about the orchestra is one of the show’s more compelling cases of the week. You find yourself drawn to this case.

You care about what happens — even if you can predict the killer by the middle of the episode. It incites intrigue that doesn’t quite pay off, but delivers in the quest for answers.

It acts more as a way to showcase Franklin and lead to his potential journey to become a father.

Franklin’s storyline works, but Amanda’s feels like a missed opportunity. The show hasn’t addressed Amanda’s bisexuality in a while.

GREG GERMANN, JOSHUA MIKEL
WILL TRENT –  Greg Germann, Joshua Mikel (Disney/Wilford Harewood)

Therefore, it’s nice to see her have a female love interest. Nonetheless, everything she does in “I Hear It Now, I Was Good” feels misguided. She acts recklessly with her attempts to protect her new girlfriend.

Amanda giving someone else a gun registered to her is such a bad move. She could be implicated in a crime.

How can such a smart cop make such a dumb move?

This may end up being part of the show’s ongoing storyline about her PTSD, but it still feels very out of character to the point of becoming unbelievable.

The Amanda we know and love wouldn’t make such a careless move — even to help someone.

Well, she actually would (if we go by history), but not in such a destructively obvious way.

Overall, “I Hear It Now, I Was Good” works because it helps extend the season’s best mystery and makes Franklin a focal point.
