13 Stars You Didn’t Know Were on The X-Files
I was eight years old when I first snuck out of bed to watch The X-Files. I was pulled in by the eerie music, the scary stories and, mostly the actors. Yes, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny were a huge part of my childhood.
I watched every film they did for the next five years of my life. Then I grew up and forgot how much I loved the characters and these actors.
Now, thanks to Netflix and an upcoming revival of the series. I’ve revisited the show to discover that some of my favorite actors did some unforgettable guest roles.
Below are 13 unforgettable guest stars from The X-Files.
1. Felicity Huffman
“Ice” (Season 1 Episode 8)

Long before she became a resident of Wisteria Lane, Felicity Huffman guest starred as a scientist that gets infected with a rage-inducing parasite in this paranoia-filled episode from season one. She went on to star on Sports Night and earned an Academy Award nomination for her role in Transamerica. Huffman is currently starring on American Crime.
2. Bryan Cranston
“Drive” (Season 6 Episode 2)
Bryan Cranston famously won his role for Breaking Bad because of his portrayal of a bigot, who may or may not be suffering from a biological containment created by the government. Additionally, this episode was written by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gillian.
3. Amanda Tapping
“Avatar” (Season 3 Episode 21)
The future Stargate SG-1 and Sanctuary actress played a hooker who dies after sleeping with Walter Skinner. Mitch Pileggi would later join Tapping on Stargate Atlantis, leaving many fans, myself included, remembering their fateful first pairing.
4-5. Joe Morton and Bellamy Young
“Redrum” (Season 8 Episode 6)
Papa Pope gets heavily featured in this ode to H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine. Bellamy Young also appears as the lawyer defending Joe’s character. I may never look at Mellie Grant and Rowan Pope the same again.
6. Lucy Lawless
“Nothing Important Happened Today” (Season 9 Episodes 1 and 2)
Lawless played Shannon McMahon, a soldier whom John Doggart knew from his past. Lawless was set to return in the finale of Season 9, but a difficult pregnancy made her unable to return. Lawless went on to guest on several shows including Parks and Recreation. She currently stars on Ash vs. The Evil Dead.
