Carrie Trailer Revamps Another Stephen King Classic for the 2020s

Carrie White is an iconic figure in the horror genre and her story has been etched into the foundations of pop culture. With a changing world that’s gone digital, Prime Video’s Carrie feels like a wake up call thanks to its newest trailer.

The streamer released the trailer for Mike Flanagan’s take on Carrie, which premieres on Wednesday, October 7. All eight episodes will drop on the platform internationally.

The last time that viewers saw Carrie White on screen was back in the 2013 theatrical film from Sony Pictures. That film only added a few elements. Carrie goes more in depth into the circumstances before and after that deadly night.

Carrie sees Carrie White attending high school for the first time as she tries to fit in despite her mother’s influence. However, she’s constantly bullied by Chris Hargensen and her friends, Sue and Tina. Despite the bullying, Carrie finds some comfort from Miss Desjardin.

As she tries to integrate herself into this new culture, Carrie slowly finds herself wrapped in a new social battle that rips the school apart from within. Fortunately for Carrie, her telekinetic powers are gradually developing, which may prove useful as things get tougher.

The official logline reads, “Carrie is a bold, timely, and surprising reinvention of the classic coming‑of‑age story, adapted as a television series for the first time by visionary showrunner Mike Flanagan.”

“After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.”

This modern take on Carrie is developed by Mike Flanagan, who also directed and wrote Doctor Sleep, the sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

Unlike previous adaptations, this one focuses on digital bullying through social media, with Chris taking to Instagram to create those stakes.

Flanagan’s Carrie offers a deeper perspective on its ensemble characters as it follows the “small, everyday choices that build toward a single, shattering night.”

Carrie is executive produced and written by Flanagan with creator Stephen King also serving as executive producer. Kate Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick, and Hiromi Kamata will direct episodes.
