Everything the Ghosts Showrunners and Cast Revealed at Comic-Con About Season 6

Is it really San Diego Comic-Con without a tease-filled Ghosts panel?

As always, Executive Producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman spoiled fans with a plethora of reveals for the upcoming sixth season, which began production in Montreal this month. The showrunners were joined by cast members Román Zaragoza (Sasappis), Asher Grodman (Trevor), and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Jay).

Let’s delve into everything revealed about Season 6 during the panel:

Case of the Disappearing Pete

Despite Pete evaporating into thin air during the Season 5 cliffhanger, everyone’s favorite traveling agent attempted to comfort fans during the introduction video for the panel.

Afterward, Wiseman was quick to update us on Pete’s fate: “We’re gonna find out what happens to him early in the season. But it’s not gonna be something that’s going to be sorted quickly and everyone moves on.”

As the Joes see it, Pete’s disappearance was a long time coming as the ghost became braver in his explorations of the outside world.

“This thing about Pete disappearing, we teased it a couple times with some near misses and him barely getting back. So it just seemed like the natural time for us to have that be the cliffhanger,” Port explained.

The cast, however, had established a comedic bit and they were sticking to it: “When we found out that it was Pete who was disappearing, we were relieved. Richie’s hard to work with,” Ambudkar said. “You go from a little bit of confusion to pure joy.”

“He’s a monster,” Zaragoza agreed.

“I’ll have to separate the character from the actor because the actor does not like working with Richie Moriarty at all. But from a character perspective — which shows you how good of an actor I am — Jay loves Pete,” Ambudkar established.

All joking aside, Ambudkar acknowledged that this isn’t the first time Jay has lost Pete while running an errand, and he is not taking the loss of his best friend well.

“I think Jay does feel super responsible. He and Kyle were right there at the finish line. They almost got him back to the house, and they couldn’t. In Season 6, we’ll be wrestling with the two of them dealing with that responsibility and trying very much to reunite Jay with his best friend, who he’s never seen before.”

Woodstone’s Hottest Club

When Superstore alum Ben Feldman checked into Woodstone as Kyle, a fellow ghost-seer and occasional babysitter, it was clear he fit in well with the cast. So well that Feldman was promoted to series regular for Season 6.

It’s rare for Ghosts to promote a guest star, but given Kyle’s abilities, Ambudkar believed it was inevitable: “He got lucky! Ben, you know it, and we know it.”

Meanwhile, Zaragoza joined fans in their excitement to see Feldman return as a regular: “He’s a seasoned vet — like Superstore; he’s incredible in that. I remember the first time he came on, I was a little star-struck. He is as incredible an actor as he is a person.”

“And he picks up on things that he immediately could tell, like everyone hates Richie,” Grodman added.

Indeed, with no shortage of talent in this cast, it isn’t enough for newcomers to be good actors; they need to mesh well with the nicest ensemble in television.

“Well, it was important to get someone at the top of the game because we have the best cast in television. When we were talking about adding someone to the cast, it had to be someone who would fit in creatively. Also, they’re all such nice, good people, “Wiseman explained. “So Ben checked a lot of the boxes.”

A Halloween Reunion

Ghosts is a show of tradition, and not even a push to mid-season could stop the sitcom from dropping its Halloween and Christmas specials this fall.

“We’re starting the season this year with the two holiday specials,” Port confirmed.

“In the Halloween special, which is our first ever hour-long Halloween special, we’re gonna meet Hetty’s sister — her mustachioed sister Margaret — who’s referenced several times in the show. We’ll meet her in sort of an unusual way.”

“Yeah, she’s gonna be a type of ghost that we have never seen,” Wiseman included.

Later, in an interview with Screen Rant, Ambudkar teased who will be playing Hetty’s sister, and his enthusiastic response is rather suspicious.

“Yep, Margaret’s coming. You won’t be able to see where she’s coming from. You’ll be blindsided by the performance of this magical actor in this once-in-a-lifetime role. We’re going to knock your pants friggin sideways!”

Could Rebecca Wisocky be pulling double duty during the Halloween special as both Woodstone sisters?

While Ambudkar’s response is far too vague, another tease from Port during the panel suggests it’s not out of the realm of possibility: “In one of the holiday specials, we’re going to see our first-ever ghost on ghost possession.”

Mistletoe and Milestones

Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans could practically hear Jake Peralta squealing in delight at this announcement: “The Christmas special is inspired by what we think would be one of Jay and Trevor’s favorite movies, Die Hard,” Port revealed.

However, the holidays are not the only special occasion as Ghosts celebrates a big TV milestone with a meta callback. “For the 100th episode — the ghosts love this reality show that we created called It’s Getting Hot in Here, which coincidentally is celebrating its 100th episode,” Wiseman confirmed.

“A lot of shows don’t make it to 100 episodes these days, so I’m honored that we’re still going,” Zaragoza interjected.

Finally, Wiseman had one last juicy tidbit to hold us over until the show officially returns in 2027 for its full season order.

“The ghost boundary plays a very important role in the show and the characters’ lives. Later on in the season, something may temporarily happen to the ghost boundary for a while.”

*Cue the gasps*

Ghosts returns for a two-episode Halloween Special on October 29 at 9/8c and then, a two-episode “Ghostmas” special on December 10 at 9/8c on CBS.
