The ZOMBIES franchise lives on!

ZOMBIES 5, a fifth installment, has been greenlit for Disney+ and Disney Channel. ZOMBIES 4: Dawn of the Vampires stars Malachi Barton and Freya Skye as set to reprise their roles as Victor and Nova, respectively.

While production is set to begin this spring in New Zealand, the movie’s official title will be announced at a later date.

ZOMBIES 5 will test the newfound peace between the Daywalkers and Vampires, “when a band of fierce mermaids arrives in Rayburn, making waves and casting a persuasive siren song to lure in new allies,” per its description.

“Nova and Victor must unite their groups once more to discover what the mermaids are really after in order to protect the fragile harmony they worked so hard to build.”

Alongside Barton and Skye, the returning cast also includes Swayam Bhatia as Vera, Julian Lerner as Ray, and Mekonnen Knife as Vargas.

The ZOMBIES franchise will welcome “a trio of mysterious mermaids.” Diaana Babnicova will play cool-girl Pearl, with Taylor Oliver as bad-boy Fin, and Olive Mortimer as tech-wiz Sandy. The movie will also add Emily Costtrici as “Zed’s zombie cousin and new transfer student,” Izzy.

As for the cast that started it all in 2018, Milo Manheim, who played Zed, and Meg Donnelly, who played Addison, are executive producers on ZOMBIES 5

Meanwhile, Trevor Tordjman will return as Bucky, cheer captain and Addison’s cousin from the original trilogy.

ZOMBIES has become a defining franchise for the current generation,” Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television, said.

“With each movie, we intentionally push the story somewhere new. Introducing mermaids in ZOMBIES 5 opens up a completely different dynamic, while staying true to the music, characters, and themes of unity and acceptance that are at the heart of these films,” Davis added.

Director and executive producer Paul Hoen is back for this latest installment, as are executive producers Jane Fleming, Mark Ordesky, Joseph Raso, and David Light, and producer Skot Bright.

Dandracio Johnson is the movie’s choreographer, while Tom Howe composed the original score. Writers Chris Hazzard, Michael Fontana, and Eydie Faye will join the franchise with ZOMBIES 5

This news comes on the heels of the announcement that last summer’s Descendants/ZOMBIES Worlds Collide Tour has a concert special streaming on Disney+. Plus, the live show will evolve this year to include Descendants, ZOMBIES, and Camp Rock.

Not to mention, ZOMBIES 5 adds to the franchise’s growing catalog, which includes ZOMBIES, ZOMBIES 2, ZOMBIES 3, ZOMBIES 4: Dawn of the Vampires, ZOMBIES: The Re-Animated Series, and the short-form series Locker Diaries: ZOMBIES.

ZOMBIES 5 will premiere on Disney+ and Disney Channel.
