School Spirits Season 3 Episode 1-3 Review: It’s A Wonderful Afterlife/Mean Ghouls/The Halls Have Eyes
School Spirits has finally returned. Paramount+ released a three-episode premiere with School Spirits Season 3 Episode 1, “It’s A Wonderful Afterlife, School Spirits Season 3 Episode 2, “Mean Ghouls,” and School Spirits Season 3 Episode 3, “The Halls Have Eyes.
These episodes explore the next chapter for this entertaining teen horror show. Last season marked the end of Maddie’s living with the ghosts storyline. She finally returned to the world of the living.
However, this came with a huge clause.

Her best friend, Simon, now finds himself trapped there as well. It appears that much of the first half of School Spirits Season 3 focuses on his plan and efforts to escape the world of ghosts. This quest allows us to see more of what could cause these students and teachers to die
The series has always played in the world of horror. It mimics and pays tribute to some classic horror movies, such as A Nightmare on Elm Street. The season seems to continue that love and tribute to the classic horror genre, because it’s setting up some potentially scary storylines.
We’re not sure how dark the show may go this season, but it’s giving Stranger Things a run for its money in terms of setting up creepiness within this world. Not all the ghosts may survive. The show also seems to be setting up the potential for ghosts to crossover through a portal.
This may make Wally’s sacrifice of not going through his door worth it if Maddie and he can find a way to be together.
The paranormal romance is already having some issues with Maddie and him no longer living in the same world. Wally even tries to give her a way to stop their romance so it doesn’t cause her issues. She refuses this offer.

Nonetheless, we expect the difficulty of not actually being together to become a major dilemma in Season 3. However, Maddie and Wally’s future woes cannot distract us from the joy of seeing Simon and Wally become friends.
The boys have never been enemies, but there has always been tension between them. Simon is Maddie’s best friend and wants her back in his world. Wally is her boyfriend and wants her with him.
Currently, they cannot both get their way. Ultimately, this means Maddie had to pick. and she picks returning to her life, which makes sense. She can’t give that up to hang out for eternity with her dead boyfriend.
Simon and Wally knew they were each other’s competition for Maddie’s love. They now actually must work together to save Simon. They were fighting a bit, but by the end of “The Halls Have Eyes,” there seems to be mutual respect and understanding.
This hopefully turns into a strong friendship.

Much of the first three episodes of Season 3 are to establish these changing dynamics and how all the characters adjust to them. Xavier is now a ghost whisperer trying to get Maddie to communicate with her dad.
Claire and Nicole are scheming. This scheme involves Nicole becoming a mean girl and popular, with a potential new love interest.
The changes also involve Maddie trying to figure out how to live in two worlds. It’s not going well because she’s already getting labeled crazy. Additionally, her mom continues to relapse.
Things aren’t as smooth and happy as Maddie hoped they would be once she got back.
“It’s A Wonderful Afterlife,” “Mean Ghouls,” and “The Halls Have Eyes” have excelled at setting up the new season. They just make us anxious to see what happens next.
