Wonder Man Renewed for Season 2 on Disney+
After a successful first run, it appears that Marvel’s next big thing, Wonder Man, is getting a sequel.
Per Variety, the second series under Marvel Studios’ Spotlight banner has been officially renewed for a second season on Disney+. The eight-episode first season debuted in late January to critical acclaim.
Starring Yahya Abdul Mateen II and Ben Kingsley, Wonder Man saw the aspiring actor Simon Williams (Abdul Mateen II) embarking on a personal journey to get the biggest role of his life and save his career.

Wonder Man Season 1 also reintroduced fans to Trevor Slattery, who previously appeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Iron Man 3.
Williams and Slattery were initially pursuing the same role, but they grew their friendship in the process.
The series also explored the fractured ties of Simon’s family and the outlawing of superpowered individuals in Hollywood through metafictional filmmaking work, similarly to The Studio.
Wonder Man wasn’t all straightforward: Agent Cleary and his Department of Damage Control agents were on the hunt to contain Williams’ power. Although Slattery took the fall by becoming “the Mandarin” again in the finale, Williams freed Slattery, and the two escaped.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Wonder Man Season 1 attained 618 million minutes of watch time and Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series. To top this off, the Marvel series will also be submitted for the Emmys under its comedy series category.
Yahya Abdul Mateen II and Ben Kingsley will return as Williams and Slattery, respectively. Additionally, co-creators Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest will be returning as well. Cretton serves as director and executive producer, while Guest serves as showrunner.
With its renewal, Wonder Man is the third live-action MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) series to have a second season, following Loki and Daredevil: Born Again.

Additionally, it is the first series under Marvel Studios’ Spotlight banner to get a second season.
The Marvel Studios Spotlight banner was originally used for shows that do not require audiences to “have seen other Marvel series to understand what’s happening,” according to Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum during Echo‘s release.
With Wonder Man returning for another season, time will tell whether or not it fully connects to the grander narrative of the franchise.
