Loot Season 3 Episode 7 Review: Billionaire, Beautiful and True
Loot Season 3 Episode 7, “Billionaire, Beautiful and True,” sees Howard attempting to pull Molly out of her funk by bringing her to overseas to see Nicholas. Meanwhile, Arthur’s men’s group forces Sofia to confront her complicated relationship with Destiny head on.
This episode feels like one step forward and one step back for Loot.
While it’s a relief to not have to go too long without Joel Kim Booster on our screen, it’s frustrating that this major point of development for the character wraps up after two episodes (one of which he isn’t even in). Nicholas sidelining his acting career has always been a conflict he’s sidesteps.

The reasons behind Nicholas’ return aren’t frustrating. It’s actually endearing that Nicholas embraces his softness earnestly as he admits that he misses Molly and the team at the Foundation.
Additionally, the idea that Nicholas’ evolution forces him to find a new dream is an exciting concept. Too often on TV we see characters achieve their dreams in a nice, neat package. There’s a lot of nuance to be explored in the idea of one’s dream not feeling the way they thought it would.
The main issue comes from how rushed this development is.
Perhaps if Nicholas’ departure happened earlier or we saw his attempt to adjust, this revelation would be more earned. Although he accepts a better position with Molly with more responsibility, it still feels like the show was scared to commit to such a big change.

On the other hand, Sofia takes a massive step forward on her own internal journey after being largely relegated to the sidelines this season.
Since the moment Destiny arrived, it’s been clear this relationship would serve as the crux of Sofia’s arc this season. However, in the safety of the game night, she completely opens up and provides so much insight into why her relationship with her sister is so tenuous.
The additional context rounds Sofia out. This conflict goes so far beyond a clash of personalities. She actively protects her heart whenever she interacts with Destiny.

Suddenly, it makes perfect sense why Sofia struggles to connect with people initially. Over the course of the series, she opens herself up to Molly, a romantic partner, and the idea of the Foundation employees as a family. To Sofia, every emotional connection is a risk.
While Loot is a comedy, Micaela Jaé Rodriguez always shines in the heartfelt moments. For as rigid as Sofia is, she often serves as an emotional compass within the series, grounding these heightened personalities in real emotion. She makes this moment feel like a major breakthrough for Sofia as a character.
The game night group presents an opportunity to let Sofia have a space outside of work. Her presence within the group works in an oddball way. Hopefully we explore this space in the future.

Stray Thoughts
- The recurring joke about 3D puzzles is a winner.
- I would love to see a full episode about Nicholas running this show parodying Molly’s life.
- Molly is clearly not prepared for an adult conversation with Arthur about the status of their relationship. I’m anxious to see how they pick back up.
