Will Trent Season 4 Episode 2 Review: Love Takes Time

Reviews, Will Trent

Does James Ulster get the best send off possible? That’s the question after watching Will Trent Season 4 Episode 2, “Love Takes Time.”

I have conflicting feelings about the ultimate demise of Ulster. Though this tribute to Misery offers another thrilling dabble in the horror genre, things don’t quite end in a satisfying way.

Ulster shows a sliver of humanity that doesn’t quite feel natural for the ruthless killer. He even tells Will that he loves him.

Obviously, Ulster probably says this to Will to manipulate him but some truth resides in these words. He loves Will in his own way.

It’s almost a too sentimental final outing between the mortal enemies, kind of familial-adjacent pair. We want them to use their wits to outsmart one another, instead of being trapped in a cage forced to explore the emotionally complicated nature of their relationship.

It’s almost like Will and Ulster are forced into couple’s therapy. Ramon Rodriguez and Greg Germann have plenty of on-screen chemistry. This makes their scenes together delightful. It just doesn’t quite match some of the depth and thrill as other Ulster episodes.

This makes his final episode feel a little lackluster. Additionally, it’s probably not the last we see the character — especially because we know that Will kind of hallucinates at times. It’s just the last time we see him alive.

Ulster leaves Will with some haunting words but they’re probably an empty final threat. Just his last chance to force himself on Will’s life forever.

He will probably become the boogeyman to Will. He will haunt him.

I am confident that this isn’t the end of Will and Ulster’s story. It’s just a close to a major chapter. Therefore, I wish more exciting things happened during his last live run.

Will Trent continues to present some Seth and Angie conflict so we don’t get too comfortable with their romantic future. Nonetheless, Seth still comes off stable and reasonable.

It makes sense that he doesn’t want his future wife and child in danger. Even knowing that Angie has plot armor, I worried some during “Love Takes Time” that someone could shoot her and her baby.

It’s a bit of an uncomfortable watch and make Seth’s fears seem justified. Nonetheless, stuff like this will clearly grow into problems in the future to maybe end their romance.

But, all Seth’s actions seem fair and reasonable. They also act as a reminder of their stark differences.

We expect this to play a major role in their probable break up. “Love Takes Time” is an okay episode that feels a bit disappointing as the final living chapter of one of the show’s best characters.

Stray Thoughts
  • I missed Ormewood’s children. It’s nice to see them again.
  • The Amanda conflict with this new guy isn’t providing much entertainment, but let’s see how it goes.
  • The ending scene with Will and his father is such a sweet ending. I am looking forward to seeing more of him this season.
  • The casting team really nailed it with Ramon Rodriguez and Yul Vazquez. They look so much alike.
  • Ormewood and Faith are definitely ending up together. They already felt so much like a family at the dinner table scene.
