Ryan Hurst Joins Prime Video’s God of War Series as Kratos

News

As if there couldn’t be more TV shows that adapt these mythological worlds, God of War is breaking those boundaries with a big announcement.

Prime Video announced that Ryan Hurst would be joining God of War Season 1 as the series icon, Kratos. Many fans have been anticipating who would portray one of the gaming industry’s iconic characters, with fancasts circulating on social media.

This casting announcement doesn’t come as a surprise. Hurst also portrayed Thor in PlayStation’s God of War Ragnarök. Kratos was previously voiced by Christopher Judge in the Norse era of the franchise and TC Carson in the Greek saga.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Kratos was a Spartan who called upon the power of Ares to take down his enemies. However, Kratos’ soul was claimed by Ares. He has sought vengeance against the Olympians to stop their tyrannical reign over the Greek world.

After defeating the Olympians, Titans, and monsters of the Greek world, Kratos decided to venture to new lands to live a peaceful life. He eventually found peace with Laufey, and the two would raise their young son, Atreus, together.

God of War Season 1 will take place in the Norse era of Kratos’ life as it adapts the events of the 2018 game. In that game, Kratos and Atreus’ mission was to spread the ashes of Freya in Jotunheim while dealing with one of Odin’s sons, Baldur.

Additionally, Season 1’s main focus will be on the father-son bond that Kratos and Atreus develop as they both learn lessons about trust, mutual self-actualization, and more. As Atreus learns how to be a better god, Kratos learns how to be a better human and father.

It was also announced that Shōgun and The Boys director Frederick E.O. Toye will be directing the first two episodes of Season 1.

Previously, the show received a two-season order, which means that God of War will be adapting both games as their own respective seasons. The show is confirmed to be in pre-production in Vancouver.

Furthermore, Ronald D. Moore will serve as showrunner, executive producer, and writer on God of War. Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon will also executive produce.

God of War is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.

God of War Season 1 will stream on Prime Video.
