High Potential Season 2 Episode 9 Review: Under the Rug
Morgan is not often a character who shows vulnerability. It’s built into her essence but shown often in her actions. This changes with High Potential Season 2 Episode 9, “Under the Rug.
A criminal millionaire makes her feel worthless for a second. It surprises us that she even takes his criticism seriously. Morgan often faces adversity and enemies, but she usually shuts them down with her quick wit.
Not in “Under the Rug.”

His comments force Morgan to reflect on her potential and purpose. We know, and she knows, that she could be doing so much more with her talents. She could be one of these wealthy individuals if she channeled her energy into making money.
Nonetheless, she helps people. We always know that Morgan’s tiny self-doubt is misplaced. However, it’s nice to see Karadec get a chance to further their bond and show her that he cares.
Morgan’s feelings being hurt by this criminal also allows viewers to learn a little more about her upbringing. It also reminds us that we still know so little about the High Potential characters.
This brief mention of her father is also, again, setting up future lore and storylines. We could see Morgan exploring her childhood trauma in future seasons.
The family dynamic remains one of the show’s selling points. Karadec furthers this point by telling Morgan to look at the impact on her family as proof that the world is better for her existence.

We also witness this because of the well-adjustment of her children. Ludo returns. He then must break Elliot’s heart by telling him that his parents are probably never going to get back together.
Elliot takes the news surprisingly well — more proof of Morgan’s good parenting. It’s a bit of a lackluster return for him, but the character only really serves as a glorified nanny. We don’t expect much from Ludo.
However, he’s a soothing, calming presence on High Potential. He, similar to Morgan’s children, grounds the show in domesticity. How many other crime consultants have an ex-husband with whom they’re extremely amicable?
Not many.
Many other crime procedurals would make Ludo and Morgan’s relationship full of tension. Resentment, lingering feelings, drama, and more negative emotions could have been the focal point of their relationship.

High Potential makes it about the family unit. Their co-parenting. That’s something that continues to give this show some charisma. We like that Ludo and Morgan have no major problems.
We also enjoy that he’s likely not someone who will join Morgan’s rotating love interest. That probably makes him one of her enduring love stories.
Stray Thoughts
- “Under the Rug” is one of the most obvious culprit cases
- The golf explanation scene is the best part of the episode. It’s cool and creative.
- I am glad the Rhys situation is immediately causing problems. I worried we wouldn’t hear about it again for a while.
- I am confused whether Karadec knows that Morgan let him go or not.
- Wagner seems too hands-on. Does he have anything better to do than to bother this team?
