Will Trent Season 4 Episode 1 Review: …Speaking of Sharks
Some shows just bring joy, even at their darkest. Will Trent Season 4 Episode 1, “…Speaking of Sharks,” proves this ABC series is one of those shows.
It radiates joyous energy, even as Will fights for his mental stability. It perfectly blends hijinks with heart.
One moment Ormewood, Polaski, and Wilks are being the hilarious comic reliefs, and then the next, you’re feeling the emotional weight of Will’s growing anger and heartbreak.

It’s a show that finds nearly perfect harmony between drama and comedy.
The comedy gives Will Tent its bright spots, but the drama proves it’s a top tier TV show. You always feel Ramon Rodriguez’s performances.
He gives some of the most memorable and emotional performances on network television. Unfortunately, it seems like network television doesn’t garner as much respect as premium channels and streaming shows, so often respectable work goes unrewarded.
This hit ABC series continues to prove its one of the most underrated shows on television.
“…Speaking of Sharks” follows the series pattern of two-episodes premiere. Therefore, we won’t get a conclusion until next week. It also starts surprisingly with a time jump and brings back one of the series’ best villains and recurring characters, James Ulster.

Greg Germann excels yet again at this oddly charming psychopath. However, he feels a lot darker and damaged this time around. Most likely this is because this is his last appearance on Will Trent.
The show basically foreshadows his death at the end of the episode by saying it’s time to die. Obviously, none of us believe that Will and Ulster die already.
We know that Ulster fakes Will and his death so that he can escape. This will be a not-so-surprising reveal.
Nonetheless, the cliffhanger hypes you up for the next episode, and, potentially, one final adventure between the enemies.
Additionally, Will Trent manages to make you care about Reed, a character who you only know for a few minutes. You feel this young man’s fear and despair as things escalate so quickly.

That’s another amazing attribute of Will Trent, it manages to add characters all the time and make you care.
We only met Will’s father, Roussard, last season but we already care about him. He also already infuriates us.
You find yourself wanting to scream at him when he kills Reed. However, then you feel the real fear that he had for Will’s safety and life. He already loves his son so much.
That’s another thing that makes Will’s anger so interesting. Theoretically, he has everything he wants (minus Angie) yet he can’t accept happiness. He still punishes himself for things beyond his control.
Season 4 could have Will’s most interesting journeys and battles.

“…Speaking of Sharks” is a nice return to the Will Trent world and is continuous proof of its greatness. We’re excited to see what happens next.
Stray Thoughts
- The moment Seth proposed, I thought James would end up killing him.
- However, with Angie still worrying about Will, makes me believe they will end in a less dramatic way, and she just ends their engagement. They become coparents.
- I still root for a world where Angie marries Seth, and Will finds someone else.
- Wilks becoming a main part of the show is welcomed and embraced. The Palaski, Ormewood, and Wilks trio is one of the show’s best.
- I am still surprised Ormewood and Amanda survived. I was convinced someone would die, but I am glad they both survived.
- If Ulster dies, I will miss him.
