Will Trent Season 4 Episode 10 Review: You’re Only as Sick as Your Secrets

Reviews, Will Trent

Sometimes it takes a pregnant woman to get the job done. Will Trent Season 4 Episode 10, “You’re Only as Sick as Your Secrets,” explores the dangers of fraternity life. It leads to one of the best episodes of the season so far.

This beloved ABC series has been having a mixed bag of a season.

It has been consistent with the team’s hilarity. Angie’s pregnancy plot has been a nice change for the show’s usual dark path with the character, and it’s been nice to see Will let his hair down. However, something has felt missing all season.

“You’re Only as Sick as Your Secrets” shows that the series just needs a great case of the week to elevate the season.  You may automatically expect that standard storyline of hazing, terrible fratbros, and unchecked privilege. This case has all those things but with some added layers of grief, regret, overbearing parenting, and lost love.

The best episodes of most procedurals involve making viewers briefly care about the subjects of the week. We watch Will Trent for the group. Therefore, we are not investing too much time into caring about these temporary characters, but somehow, you start to care about these college students.

You feel their remorse and regret by the end. The idea of fraternity privileges has been something that we see often in  TV shows and movies, which means this ABC series isn’t giving us something fresh and new.

Nevertheless, it feels that way. You’re glued to the entire story.

Angie carries “You’re Only as Sick as Your Secrets.” This episode highlights her as a cop and gives a glimpse of her as a future mother.

We witness her instincts kick in as she uses her nurturing ways to get Legacy on her side. She then doesn’t hesitate to shoot his arm to save another student. Angie kicks ass this episode, all while struggling with some pregnancy symptoms and hindrances.

It’s truly a top-tier Angie episode. It’s also one of the best Seth ones so far.

We meet Seth in Season 3 and have seen hints of his personality all Season 4, but “You’re Only as Sick as Your Secrets” feels like the first true episode that lets us get to know him. He’s quirky, kind, understanding, and bold.

In many ways, he’s the emotionally stable version of Will.  This episode allows viewers to understand Angie’s love and attraction for Seth fully. We are also allowed to enjoy him outside the bubble of only seeing him with Angie.

We see him interact with Will, Pete, and feel like part of the Will Trent cast and crew, instead of like an outside observer. It almost gives you a false sense of security that he’s here to stay. We also see him planning for the future by initiating a friendship with Will.

RAMÓN RODRIGUEZ

It’s a natural pairing that’s free of resentment and animosity. The TV show’s writers have been steering clear of expectations and cliches for Seth and Angie’s relationship. We expect some tension between these men.

However, they’re both mature, so they’re not going to engage in some silly battle for Angie. It feels more realistic that Will and Setth would bond and become friends. Therefore, it’s nice to see the writers not take the repetitive route of a love triangle, or men who cannot put aside their egos for the woman they both love.

Seth and Will helping set up the baby room for Angie and Seth’s future child may be one of Will Trent’s most heartwarming moments ever.

“You’re Only as Sick as Your Secrets” is, overall, a really solid episode. It has a main plot that keeps you engaged all the way through, fun subplots, and highlights a character who hasn’t gotten enough attention yet.

Stray Thoughts
  • Will Trent is almost tricking me into believing Seth will survive the season. Almost, but not quite.
  • It was nice to see Caroline again. Feels like we haven’t seen her much this season.
  • Glad the series didn’t just erase Malcolm, and Faith continues to mourn the potential of that love story.
