High Potential Season 2 Episode 8 Review: The One That Got Away: Part Two
Predictability can be a comfort. It doesn’t have to mean a TV show isn’t compelling or thrilling, it just may mean you often know what happens next. That’s the case with High Potential Season 2 Episode 8, “The One That Got Away: Part 2.”
The reveal that Rhys is John Baptiste adds a predictable layer to the midseason premiere. However, it doesn’t deter from the excitement of this solid return to the Morgan show.
This episode reminds us why we enjoy these characters, even when the story becomes a bit stale.

Their unique personalities, fun dynamics, and their captivating bond translate well; you care about this team. You want to see them thrive and survive. Therefore, it’s nice to see all of them again, but that can’t distract from some of the episode’s pitfalls.
“The One That Got Away: Part 2” tries to steer you in other directions with Rhys. However, it’s never quite convincing that he’s just an art recovery specialist. Like Morgan, you know he is the mysterious art thief.
You’re just waiting for the reveal.
Though the episode fails to trick you about Rhys, it does an excellent job with a few other surprises. The art collector couple as the real culprits surprises and entices you into wanting to know more.
That whole segment delivers enough fun and excitement to make “The One That Got Away: Part Two” worth the watch. Nevertheless, it remains just an okay episode.

High Potential has produced some more captivating episodes throughout its season and a half run. Therefore, some may find this one a lackluster return, but it works just enough to keep us enthusiastic about the potential of Season 2.
In addition, the Roman storyline continues to drag. We need to move this plot along a little faster, but it seems as if we won’t meet him until the Season 2 finale.
However, despite growing frustrations with the Roman storyline, the recent developments have led to more intrigue. We care who this unknown man is that’s looking for the backpack.
A simple disappearance storyline continues to evolve into a potential major crime tale. Also, now you have to wonder if Arthur may be a goner.
High Potential continues to grow and develop, so we aren’t expecting perfection, but it has some very strong episodes at the start of the season. It shall be interesting to see if the momentum stops or increases during the back half of the season.

“The One That Got Away: Part 2” does just enough to get us back into the action, but not enough to make us extremely excited about future storylines. We care to see the next chapters but we’re not anxiously awaiting them.
Stray Thoughts
- Arthur and Selena…romantic potential?
- Did we spot some jealousy from Karadec after seeing Morgan and Wager talk?
- The bar scene is a fun one, and hopefully, we continue to see the group bond outside of work.
- It is very sweet that Morgan and Rhys commit several crimes to return the painting to Miriam, especially giving her past.
