9-1-1, Grey’s Anatomy, The Rookie, and Two More Renewed at ABC
9-1-1, Grey’s Anatomy, The Rookie, Shifting Gears, and Will Trent have been renewed at ABC.
These latest renewals join Abbott Elementary (Season 5), High Potential (Season 2), and the 9-1-1 spinoff series 9-1-1: Nashville for the network’s upcoming 2025-2026 slate. As previously reported, the latter recently added NCIS: Los Angeles‘s Chris O’Donnell as its lead.
The freshman drama series Doctor Odyssey is the only ABC series whose fate remains uncertain. The Wrap reports that “creative conversations about the show’s direction in a potential Season 2 still underway.”

9-1-1 will return for its ninth season, though it’s the show’s third on ABC. FOX canceled the series after its sixth season but renewed its spinoff, 9-1-1: Lone Star, which wrapped up its fifth and final season in February 2025.
The firefighting procedural drama airs a new episode — 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 13, “Invisible” — on Thursday, April 3, at 8/7c on ABC.
Grey’s Anatomy, the longest-running medical drama on TV, will return to ABC with Season 22. This renewal news comes ahead of Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 13, “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” airing at 10/9c on ABC.
The Rookie‘s renewal means the police procedural drama will return for its eighth season on ABC. This news comes on the heels of The Rookie Season 7 Episode 12, “April Fools.” It also comes after the series reached multiplatform season highs in both total viewers and adults 18-49 with The Rookie Season 7 Episode 11, “Speed.”

Meanwhile, the freshman comedy series Shifting Gears will return for its sophomore season. The series, starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings, concluded its 10-episode first season with Shifting Gears Season 1 Episode 10, “Kiss,” in March 2025.
TV Line reports that Shifting Gears “is ABC’s most-watched comedy (of three) thus far this TV season, and ranks No. 3 amongst all broadcast sitcoms, trailing only CBS’ Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and Ghosts.”
Last but not least, the crime procedural drama Will Trent has been renewed for Season 4 at ABC. Based on Karin Slaughter’s bestselling book series, the show stars executive producer Ramón Rodríguez in the titular role.
The renewal comes after Will Trent Season 3 Episode 12, “You’re the Worst Person in the World,” aired on Wednesday, April 1. Its 18-episode third season will continue with another new episode next Wednesday on ABC.
