The Pitt Season 1 Episode 6 Review: 12:00 p.m.

Reviews, The Pitt

It is finally noon on The Pitt Season 1 Episode 6, “12:00 p.m.,” and part of the team has been able to have lunch.

Throughout the last few episodes, it feels that all the doctors and nurses are fending for themselves and forgetting that there are other people in the pitt that can provide support.

That changes when Robby gathers everyone to repeat what he has been hearing since the beginning of his shift: patient satisfaction.

The Pitt Season 1 Episode 6: Dr. Robby

This has been a recurring theme since the beginning of the series, the corporate aspect of running a hospital, and there hasn’t been anything new regarding that plot line. Robby is still angry, and the rest of the team is starting to become frustrated.

It feels repetitive; Robby is standing his ground, and corporate keeps emphasizing the same things over and over. Having gotten to know Robby for the past six episodes, he’s not going to back down, but at the end of the shift, something might have to.

Selling a hospital seems like a lengthy process, so having that happen at the conclusion of the season seems unlikely. However, there might be a change regarding the staff since that was brought up this week as well.

What has become clear is that Pitt cannot survive without Robby. Hopefully, he will be able to find a solution by the end of the day. However, when money is what is important, his reasonable requests might continue to be ignored as they already have been.

With this in mind, Robby will go out of his way to try to stop hearing those complaints and, as the saying goes, forget to fill his cup.

Another big question is whether to listen to patients’ wishes or follow protocol and the law. Now that Nick Bradley has been declared brain dead, the fact that he was an organ donor is brought up, but his grieving mother refuses, saying that she still gets to make decisions over him because she is his mother.

Robby is now in a tense situation because organs are hard to come by, and there are people who need them. Permission was given by Nick to donate, but how do you go against a mother?

Then again, it wouldn’t be the first time that Robby goes against a patient’s wishes for the sake of their family, considering he intubated Mr. Spencer against his wishes.

Collins is now in the same situation, Kristi’s mother is forcing her to keep the baby, the latter does not want to. The case is different; she is still underage and needs consent, which she technically already has, but it is her aunt’s.

The question remains if Collins will break protocol and do what’s best for her patient, even though she has expressed that she’s a rule follower. It’s interesting that she has been forced into this situation again, and maybe this time, she will follow Robby’s steps.

It’s hard to say what decision she might make, considering the conversation about privilege she just had and she is thinking about her unborn child, there is a lot on the line for her compared to Robby. However, Robby might be thinking too much about patient satisfaction and following the parents’ wishes once more.

The strengths of this episode are definitely the interactions between those who hadn’t even stood next to each other in a while, most notably Javadi, Whitaker, and Santos.

The Pitt Season 1 Episode 6: Dr. Trinity Santos

The newcomers have been split into different areas, and it was nice to see them talk about their wins and losses. Most notably, Javadi and Whitaker finally had something to make fun of Santos with, just as she has been doing since the beginning.

This showcased what has been suspected all along: Javadi and Whitaker are more likely to thrive in this environment instead of Santos. Their development has been one of the highlights of the series so far, especially Whitaker, who has been able to keep standing tall and be fulfilled with all he has encountered.

The character development is starting to pay off; not a lot has been seen yet, but it’s very satisfying to see the little seeds that have been planted start to bloom.

The cliffhanger endings are starting to become frustrating, not because they are bad, but because of the anticipation of having to wait a full week to see the resolution. This week’s ending did not offer any resolution to the one provided on The Pitt Season 1 Episode 5, “11:00 a.m.” but rather enhanced it.

This has been a continuing pattern, enhancement over resolution, but it goes well with the stakes of an emergency room.
