The Artful Dodger Renewed for Season 2 at Disney+ and Hulu

The Artful Dodger has more tricks up its sleeve!

Disney+ and Hulu have renewed the series for a second season nearly a year after its debut.

Deadline reports that Thomas Brodie-Sangster will return as the titular character, Jack Dawkins, alongside David Thewlis as Fagin and Maia Mitchell as Lady Belle Fox. As previously reported, the trio joined The Artful Dodger in November 2022.

The Artful Dodger‘s eight-episode first season premiered on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, on Disney+ and Hulu.

The second season will also be eight episodes, picking up “where the heart’s desires of Dodger, Fagin, and Lady Belle left off, promising more cunning thievery, snappy humor, life-and-death surgeries, and romance with a twist,” per TV Line.

The first season ends with Jack trusting Fagin and performing a successful surgery on Belle’s aortic aneurysm, but the titular character does end up in jail.

The Artful Dodger Season 2 will begin filming at Callan Park in Sydney, Australia, in 2025, featuring an Australian and New Zealand ensemble with “several new faces in exciting cameos.” There is no premiere date for the season yet.

“The return of our Australian-born Disney+ Original scripted drama, complete with all-star cast and a brilliant crew, is a testament to the series’ high caliber of production and its local and international audience success,” Watson-Wheeler continued.

“We’re delighted this high-stakes romantic drama of heists, comedy, and beautifully complicated life and love will thrill and entertain again,” Watson-Wheeler concluded.

The Artful Dodger co-creator and executive producer James McNamara is writing Season 2 with Kate Mulvany, Dan Knight, and Miranda Tapsell. Ben Young and Gracie Otto are directing the season, with Jeffrey Walker consulting.

McNamara created the series with David Maher and David Taylor. 

Sony Pictures Television’s Curio Pictures will co-produce The Artful Dodger Season 2 for Disney+/Hulu. Jo Porter executive producers and Rachel Gardner produces for Curio. Cameron Welsh is a series producer.

The New South Wales state government supports the second season of The Artful Dodger through Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund.
