Chicago P.D. Season 12 Episode 7 Review: Contrition
Even though Chicago P.D. Season 12 Episode 7, “Contrition,” is Torres’s episode, it heavily focuses on Cook’s worth and her place in the unit. She holds her ground exceptionally well for someone who’s never been undercover.
Yes, at one point, viewers are afraid that she screwed up by mentioning what Torres told her about Gloria, but she finds her way out of that trouble. At least for now, she is safe.
That, however, won’t stop Gloria from suspecting people are listening in on her conversations. Now that she has revealed her affair with Torres, it might be too late for him and Kim to protect their reputation and jobs.

When Zibata came into play and Torres realized it could be Gloria, we knew things would get complicated for him. Throughout “Contrition,” he is anxious about what could happen.
We see him fidgeting with his badge, going to church, and praying. He feels unsafe because he knows Gloria won’t hesitate to give him up or use their past as an extortion.
And he isn’t wrong. When Gloria believes Cook is a cop, she immediately starts talking about Torres. Knowing that she might be recorded is the encouragement she needs to give him up and use that to her own benefit. If she’s going down, she’s bringing him with her.
Kim saves their days by pulling the plug on the live feed. But is this all they need to stay out of prison for what Torres did and she kept a secret?
With Gloria still out there and running the streets, none of them are safe.

Knowing every character who’s been a part of Chicago P.D. and the things Voight has done to protect his unit, we wonder why Torres didn’t tell him about Gloria. It would have been easier for him to be honest with the sergeant from the beginning.
Nevertheless, the current situation creates the perfect setting for Burgess and Torres to work together. This unlikely pairing is a good one, and they work well together.
Of course, they’ve been pushed together because they’re keeping a secret from everyone else, but their chemistry out in the field is what you want to see between partners. Even though they’re not used to working together, they understand each other well.
When the rest of the unit might be oblivious to Torres’s feelings, she is the one to set him straight and pull him back to be steady. Torres would have lost his grip sooner than he did without her by his side in most scenes and probably given Cook away.

Chicago P.D. Season 12 Episode 7, “Contrition,” does two things really well regarding the Torres and Gloria mess.
The first one is that for a split second, the episode makes us wonder if Gloria’s being from Zibata and working at the restaurant are just coincidences. We wonder if she got her life together and is just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
However, that idea is quickly dismissed (for us and the unit) when Cook shows them the footage. Gloria is definitely the boss.
The second one makes us wonder if Torres is still in love with Gloria. How he speaks in church and looks at her are significant clues to his feelings.
But the biggest tell comes when he runs to the car because he believes Cook has been made. He is praying. That is when we begin to think, is he praying that Cook is safe? Or is he praying that the gunshot wasn’t meant for Gloria?

This case has only just begun, and it will be interesting to see what happens next. Even though Kim shut the feed, we know that the unit will find out that Torres slept with Gloria when she was a CI.
Maybe Voight would have reacted differently if Torres had told him when it first happened, but now he is likely to be angry and afraid that this will jeopardize the case and their careers.
All we hope for right now is that Chicago P.D. will pick up right where this left off and not make us wait between episodes until it’s Torres’s episode’s turn again. That formula only works when storylines aren’t left with big question marks.
