Preview — 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 5: The 118 Celebrates Halloween with Treats and Twists
9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 5, “Masks,” brings treats and twists to the 118 as they work the year’s spookiest night — again.
The first responder procedural drama’s other Halloween episodes include 9-1-1 Season 1 Episode 7, “Full Moon (Creepy AF),” 9-1-1 Season 2 Episode 7, “Haunted,” 9-1-1 Season 3 Episode 6, “Monsters,” and 9-1-1 Season 5 Episode 7, “Ghost Stories.”
The promo video for “Masks” shows the team in costumes (Hen, Karen, and their family — including Mara — going full The Wizard of Oz is the sweetest!). It also teases the firehouse being turned into a haunted house open for trick-or-treating, with Bobby the Vampire passing out candy.

The photos for “Mask” show that Buck provides some of the building’s decorations, and the episode’s description teases that there is more to those decorations than meets the eye. The 9-1-1 photos also tease that Athena will talk to students about the LAPD’s C.A.R.E. program, which feels eerily similar to the US’s D.A.R.E. program.
At some point, “Masks” will turn toward the scary when bizarre calls (a man’s head is trapped in a giant pumpkin!) lead to a heartbreaking twist — Hen and Karen’s son gets pinned between a car and a house while trick-or-treating.
It’s only on 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 4, “No Place Like Home,” that Karen and Hen’s foster license is reinstated, and they welcome Mara home from Chimney and Maddie’s house. Hopefully, there’s a happy ending to “Masks” because Karen, Hen, and their family deserve some joy.
