Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 9 Review: Escape from Planet Klongo
Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 9, “Escape from Planet Klongo,” finds our trio uncovering a shocking truth while Oliver and Charles work through a little bump in their friendship.
Oliver and Charles’ storyline is sweet.
As much as they are a trio, Charles and Oliver have a lot more in common with each other than they do with Mabel. This doesn’t mean their relationships with her are any less meaningful, they are just different.

As much as I missed Mabel being involved in the Planet Klongo shenanigans, it is nice that Charles and Oliver’s relationship can shine.
What’s even better is that their spat dovetails into getting answers from Ron Howard.
It’s not an entirely separate storyline that takes Charles and Oliver away from the mystery. They have their fight while undercover, and then they run into Ron Howard at the restaurant after they’ve had their heart-to-heart.
The twist that Marshall is Sazz’s protege is unexpected.

Out of everyone we’ve met this season, he comes across as the least likely to be a stuntman. However, he’s proven that he’ll do whatever it takes to get one of his scripts in the hands of a Hollywood executive, and the job as a stuntman did get him in front of Ron Howard.
Our trio deduced on Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 5, “Adaptation,” that two people had to be involved in killing Sazz: one to take the shot and one to take Sazz to the incinerator, so we do still have one more killer to unmask.
Hopefully, Marshall is actually one of the killers because one final, thirty-minute episode is not enough time to clear his name, come up with a new motive for Sazz’s death, and then determine the identities of the real killers.
It’ll be a very rushed episode if the show attempts this, and it could result in a less-than-satisfactory ending.

If Marshall had secret skills as a stuntman, perhaps he’s also hiding the fact that he’s an expert marksman. Okay, that feels unlikely. What is your theory?
One last note, if Marshall is responsible for killing Sazz, this doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s the one who’s been targeting our trio. Sazz finding out he stole her script and Marshall wanting to keep her quiet is motive, but our trio is not connected to that at all.
Perhaps Only Murders in the Building Season 5 will follow our trio investigating who has been after them. It would be a smart way for the show to get around having yet another person die in the building. They’ve mocked their flawed business plan before, and it would be a good time to make a change.
Stray Thoughts
- Ron Ron instantly made me think of Lavender Brown.
- He and Ollie are a fun duo.
- Bev is very resourceful… should we be suspicious of her?
