Emily Andras Says ‘Wynonna Earp: Vengeance’ Will Be Satisfying for Dedicated Fans and Newcomers Alike [Interview]
No one knows the resilience of a cult series like Wynonna Earp creator Emily Andras, who spoke during roundtable interviews at San Diego Comic-Con about resurrecting her beloved characters for Wynonna Earp: Vengeance.
“You just cannot count Earp out,” Andras declared.
Despite being “in denial” that this special was happening, the writer admitted she had one stipulation for any reboot: “It was going to be all of us or none of us. So that was one of the most moving things for me is that everyone worked so hard around this schedule to make it work.”

In a television landscape where happy endings have become a thing of legend, Wynonna Earp went out on its own terms with a series finale that gave its women warriors the love stories they deserved.
Andras said it is both a “blessing and a curse” that they had the privilege of writing an ending to the series.
“It is so rare when you’re chasing a renewal every year, right? We ended with one of the couples domesticated and one riding off into the sunset. So in a weird way, that was friggin’ terrified to be like, ‘Let’s just pull that thread,'” she confirmed. “We need new conflicts; we need to bring them home. We can’t keep them happily ever after.”
However, she believes the gamble will be worth it.
“We have a hugely passionate, dedicated audience. But Tubi was like, ‘We want to do something new and bring in everybody.’ So, if you’re a hardcore fan of the series, there are so many easter eggs. There are so many inside jokes. There are really fun cameos.”
“But if your dad or your auntie, your dog, or your dog’s dog has never seen it, they’ll get it — she’s a sexy demon-hunting cowgirl,” she exclaimed. “It’s a whole wild ride, and it’s going to be satisfying for everyone.”

In a candid moment, Andras revealed that as a writer, it can be difficult to find the characters’ voices again after being away from any project long enough. Despite how lively this cowboy crew is on screen, Wynonna Earp was no different.
“I’m going to be honest. It’s like if you’re playing a sport — when you’re in it, you have that muscle memory. But when you stop, you’re like, ‘Oh, is Doc Holliday a robot? Beep bop boop,’ like it was harder than I thought,” she admitted.
“It’s all in there. But you have to remember what everyone sounds like and the rhythm of the show — and I think that fear is really healthy. You should care enough that you’re a little bit terrified. That you want it to be so good, you are scared. I think fear can be your friend.”
The downside to finding their voices again? “Now they’re stuck in my head, and I’ve got more to tell, so we got to keep going!”
Regardless of how this special goes down, Wynonna Earp will always be in good hands with Emily Andras.
