The Twilight Saga Rises from the Dead with ‘Midnight Sun’ Animated Series at Netflix
Netflix is developing a new entry in the Twilight Saga — an animated series based on the 2020 companion novel Midnight Sun.
The streaming service made the news official on its TUDUM website.
Midnight Sun retells the Twilight book from the perspective of Edward Cullen, a vampire and Bella Swan’s main romantic interest. Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight books and Midnight Sun, will executive produce the new animated show.

Other executive producers include Meyer’s partner from Fickle Fish Films, Meghan Hibbett, as well as Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen from Temple Hill Entertainment, and Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey from Picturestart.
Sinead Daly will executive produce and write the series. Daly is a writer and actress known for her credits on Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Raised by Wolves, and The Get Down.
Deadline confirms that Midnight Sun was given a straight-to-series order and reports that Lionsgate Television is helping develop the series.
Lionsgate helped produce and release the Twilight film franchise. In 2023, it was reported that Lionsgate Television was working on developing a TV adaptation of the franchise.

The main Twilight novels and films follow Bella Swan, who moves to a small American town and finds herself drawn to the enigmatic Edward Cullen. She soon discovers that Cullen is a vampire and gets wrapped up in the supernatural’s complicated and political world.
The films famously starred Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in the two lead roles. The movie series also starred Taylor Lautner as werewolf Jacob, Bella’s friend and other love interest.
Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Ashley Greene, and Micheal Sheen are among those who starred in supporting roles in the films.
Five films based on the four books were released, with the final one, Breaking Dawn: Part 2, hitting theaters in 2012.
