Agatha All Along Season 1 Episodes 1 and 2 Review: Seekest Thou the Road, Circle Sewn with Fate / Unlock Thy Hidden Gate
Agatha All Along Season 1 Episode 1, “Seekest Thou the Road,” and Agatha All Along Season 1 Episode 2, “Circle Sewn with Fate / Unlock Thy Hidden Gate,” bring us back to Westview.
The show reintroduces us to the immortal witch Agatha Harkness as she is trapped under Wanda Maximoff’s spell from WandaVision, but not for long. Agatha All Along takes a life of its own as it strays away from the previous series as the witch attempts to take her life back to become the most powerful witch in existence.
Kathryn Hahn continues to own the role of Agatha Harkness with her quippy dialogue and deliciously devilish persona in the two-episode premiere.

We get some of those tropes from pop culture shows like the previous MCU series with the character, but they only occur within the first episode. Once the show breaks out of that trance, all hell breaks loose as we dive into Agatha’s world full of witches and magic.
This is by no means just a continuation of WandaVision, but is instead an entirely new story. We are thrust into Agatha’s troubles after the spell she was under is gone, and now she is without her powers. It is now open season for Agatha as the Salem Seven, a coven who is after her for the crimes she has committed as a witch centuries earlier.
Alongside her journey is a young teen (Joe Locke) who has managed to break the spell that Agatha was under and now needs her help to travel to The Road.
Legend has it that it is a place that witches have access to that can grant any of your desires as long as you survive the trials. Agatha uses this opportunity to reclaim her powers.

She would need to gather a coven of her own to unlock the door to the Witches’ Road. That means she would have to connect with other witches from her history, expanding the ever-growing MCU as it goes into the supernatural side of it.
The first episode does well in showcasing Hahn’s ability to play this role and why audiences have been captivated by her mischievous character. There are also some new characters, like Aubrey Plaza’s Vidal, who shares some history with Agatha. Plaza does a marvelous job in her role as she is on equal footing with Hahn when they share screen time.
Plaza does well in hiding her character’s motives with her seductive eyes as she puts on a spell. We are also introduced to other cast members like Sasheer Zamata and Patti LuPone who each put some incredible performances alongside Hahn.
One of the biggest standouts is Locke, who plays more of the audience’s eyes as we are thrown into Agatha’s world. The British actor has some great comedic timing and matches well with Hahn’s character like a buddy cop relationship.
He has a mysterious past that we don’t get to see as a spell has been put on him, preventing Agatha from learning anything about him, including his real name. It would be one of the most significant plot points of the show as we are thrust straight into the season as it goes on. Seeing as this is a weekly series, here’s hoping we get to uncover more about Locke’s character.

Even though it’s a Marvel show, Agatha All Along doesn’t necessarily connect itself to the larger MCU, which is better this way. It is a perfect series that is fun and brings in the spooky season.
The show not only adds layers to Agatha, but it also sheds some light on the other witches we are introduced to from the Marvel Universe. It gives audiences a better insight into the background of this diverse ragtag coven.
As this is under showrunner Jac Schaeffer, this is a completely different show from his other series WandaVision. Still, we may get to see some of those connections unfold, such as how the first episode takes the previous series’ format of replicating a popular TV series.
There are certainly going to be a lot of theories going around as to who the teen is and his possible relationship with the mothership series.
All in all, the first two episodes of Agatha All Along are a great way to get into the Halloween spirit. There’s enough lore for fans to get invested and bring in enough intrigue into what’s happening with Agatha and the rest of these characters.
It will be interesting to see what happens next in these next few episodes, but the journey to the Witches’ Road is off to an impressive start.
What theories might you have on the show?
