Tru Valentino Not Returning for ‘The Rookie’ Season 7

The Rookie‘s team will be missing a key member when it returns.

TV Line exclusively reported that Tru Valentino will not return as a series regular on Season 7. Since 2021, Valentino has portrayed Aaron Thorsen, the Tik-Tok famous rookie who was accused and eventually cleared of a murder charge. The actor made his debut on The Rookie Season 4 Episode 2, “Five Minutes.”

Valentino recurred throughout the police procedural’s fourth season before being promoted to a series regular for The Rookie‘s fifth and sixth seasons.

On the other hand, Aaron Thorsen wasn’t promoted to Officer II until The Rookie Season 5 Episode 3, “Dye Hard.” 

The show’s most recent season saw Aaron recovering from an attack that left him in a coma during The Rookie Season 5 Episode 22, “Under Siege,” left Aaron in a medically-induced coma after being shot. The Rookie Season 6 Episode 1, “Strike Back,” began Aaron’s road to recovery after an emergency surgery. 

Collider confirms the news comes on the heels of Valentino’s absence at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, which The Rookie cast attended to tease Season 7.

As previously reported, ABC renewed the series for its seventh season in April and later confirmed it would air during the network’s mid-season 2024/2025 slate.

Valentino’s exit as a series regular also comes nearly a month after two new recurring guest stars joined Season 7. According to Variety, ABC shared the casting of Deric Augustine and Patrick Keleher during Disney’s presentation at the summer 2024 Television Critics Association press tour. 

Augustine will play Miles, “one of the newest rookies at the LAPD. As a Texas transfer, Miles is a ‘rookie’ despite being a two-year veteran of the force.” Keleher will portray the rookie Seth, who “seems like the ideal police officer, but the job requires quick, decisive action — something that doesn’t come naturally to Seth.”

The Rookie, created by executive producer and showrunner Alexi Hawley, debuted in 2018. It stars Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, Eric Winter, Mekia Cox, Shawn Ashmore, Jenna Dewan, and Lisseth Chavez.

Fillion, Mark Gordon, Michelle Chapman, Brynn Malone, Bill Norcross, and Jon Steinberg executive produce. The Rookie is a co-production between the lead studio and international distributor Lionsgate Television and ABC Signature.
