When Do ‘Chicago Med,’ ‘Chicago Fire,’ and ‘Chicago P.D.’ Return for New Seasons in 2024?
If you’ve been waiting for the return of NBC’s beloved Chicago-centric Dick Wolf franchise, One Chicago, fret not: the wait is almost over. Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. return on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, in their respective 8-10PM Eastern timeslots.
When they last aired in May, worry of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes loomed over Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. as both series left off on massive cliffhangers.
However, it may actually be the final moments of Chicago Med that hold more questions as we head into the delayed return of One Chicago.
Chicago Med

With a quiet lead-up throughout the back half of Season 8, Chicago Med saw the exit of Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) in the season finale. Will took the fall for tampering with faulty equipment and chose to resign from his attending position.
Though this decision might seem drastic given that he has broken the rules before, the clarity in Will’s action became evident in the final moments of the episode when he walked through the doors of the Seattle-Tacoma airport to reunite with Natalie (Torrey DeVitto) and her son, Owen, who left the series in Season 6.
The exit comes as a happy ending for the two and will hopefully remain that in the future. It has left us wondering, though, what Chicago Med Season 9 has in store after the loss of yet another major cast member.
Chicago Fire

Series regular departures seem to be a trend lately, seeing as Chicago Fire Season 11 concluded with Mouch’s (Christian Stolte) life on the line just as Casey (Jesse Spencer) popped the question in Brett’s (Kara Killmer) doorway. With said question left unanswered, it may seem like a cliffhanger. However, the announcement that Killmer will exit the series makes that impending “yes” feel obvious.
On the other hand, it is still unknown whether or not Mouch will have survived his own cliffhanger. We have learned that Brett won’t be the only one calling it quits during Season 12 though, and no, it isn’t Severide (Taylor Kinney). Kinney is set to make his return in the premiere.
Alberto Rosende, who has played Blake Gallo for the last five seasons, will also be leaving Firehouse 51 behind, though we will have to wait to see how he is written out of the show.
Chicago P.D.

The departure we’re betting against this season is Chicago P.D.’s Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger). Midway through the Chicago P.D. Season 10 finale, Adam took a bullet to the chest while trying to close a near-season-long case. Intelligence was quick to his rescue, and he was taken to the hospital.
The last update on his status came from Burgess’ (Marina Squerciati) panicked explanation that the doctors hadn’t told her anything about her partner’s condition.
Even so, it doesn’t look like that cliffhanger will result in the loss of anyone from the intelligence unit. Still, that doesn’t mean that Chicago P.D. has been spared from losing a series regular in its upcoming eleventh season either.
The news broke in late October that Tracy Spiridakos would also be leaving the One Chicago franchise, ending her six-year run as Hailey Upton. Like Gallo, it’s still unknown how or exactly when we’ll see Hailey leave, but fans of her relationship with Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) hope it may tie into his Season 10 exit.
