Fire Country Adds Rafael de la Fuente for Season 2

Things are heating up for Fire Country‘s second season!

Dynasty‘s Rafael de la Fuente is joining CBS’s firefighting drama as Diego for its sophomore season, TV Line exclusively reported. His character is described as “a charming and motivated paramedic/firefighter and combat vet who served in Afghanistan.”

Screenrant confirms the casting news while raising questions of whether Diego could mean trouble for any romantic future between Bode Donovan and Gabriela Perez.

After all, Diego will train Gabriela for her paramedic certification, “pushing Bode’s estranged girlfriend to go beyond her limits,” per TV Line.

Bode and Gabriela’s will-they-won’t-they relationship hit the rocks when Bode lied about his participation in criminal activity to protect Freddy on Fire Country Season 1 Episode 22, “I Know It Feels Impossible.” That season finale aired on CBS in May 2023.

The network renewed Fire Country for Season 2 halfway through its debut season in January 2023.

“It’s pretty remarkable to see a new series resonate like this with both broadcast and streaming audiences right out of the gate,” Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said about the show’s renewal.

Fire Country has so many appealing entry points for the audience. It combines high-stakes action with small town charm, mystery and romance, and a family franchise at its core,” Reisenbach added.

“We’re blessed to have an incredible team in front of and behind the camera led by amazing producers and writers and an exceptionally talented cast,” Reisenbach concluded.

Fire Country Season 1 Episode 1, “Pilot,” debuted on Friday, October 7, 2022, telling the story of “a young convict seeking redemption and a shortened prison sentence by joining a prison release firefighting program in Northern California, where he and other inmates are partnered with elite firefighters to extinguish massive, unpredictable wildfires across the region,” per its official synopsis.
