News, Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Percy Jackson and the Olympians has revealed our first feature-length look at Camp Half-Blood. Always a titular character in Rick Riordan’s mythology series, the camp is a somewhat safe space where demi-gods can explore their godly powers.

This new teaser trailer features a tidal wave of Easter eggs for book readers, including first looks at Capture the Flag, the Lotus Casino, and Waterland water park.

“My name is Percy Jackson. Am I a troubled kid? Yeah, you could say that,” Walker Scobell’s Percy says, uttering the famous first lines of his origin story. Like every kid, he has bullies, bad grades, and Dyslexia to deal with. That is, until his teacher, Mrs. Dodds, transforms into a Fury and tries to kill him.

Unfortunately for Percy, he is the only one who witnesses the attack. He is quick to write it off as another oddity of his life until Grover arrives at his door with hooved feet and a sudden urgency to get out of New Jersey.

The trailer gives us a proper look at Grover’s satyr transformation, and his CGI hooves look great! Additionally, it would be exciting to see Scobell’s voiceover work used in the show if it means we get more of Book Percy’s spunk translated onto the screen.

Glimpses of Camp Half-Blood are selective, keeping the cabins and campers like Luke Castellan hidden from view.

Even so, we get to see battle sequences from Capture the Flag, which features a floundering Percy in full leather gladiator armor (a costume that is very similar to the film’s interpretation).

Not only is the iconic orange shirt on full display, but Leah Jeffries conveys Annabeth’s hunger for a quest and irritation with Percy in one stare. Also, a few teasing voiceovers cleverly foreshadow Chiron and Sally Jackson’s roles in Percy’s arrival at camp.

Immediately, this trailer makes it clear the show will go where the movies did not.

In addition to the camp, the show will dive into notable scenes from the first book. Scenes that will include a quest from Ares to infiltrate an abandoned water park and spend lots of time bonding on creepy run-down rides.

Then, brief glimpses of the vibrant Lotus Casino nightlife come into view. Following this are compelling flashes of Percy uncapping his sword Riptide for the first time, and Zeus is rocking a suit ensemble fitting of the CEO god.

But perhaps the most telling shot comes when Sally tells Percy, “You’re going to need to be brave now,” as the music swells and Percy runs towards an outcome we won’t see until December 20.

So, to conclude, we have new Camp Half-Blood content and proof our inner children might not survive a book-accurate Percy Jackson adaptation.
