‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Teases a Faithful Adaptation with New Trailer
On this very day — Percy Jackson’s birthday, no less — the infamous demi-god finally made his presence to the gods known.
After two long years of waiting, Disney+ declared in a press release that Percy Jackson and the Olympians would premiere its first two episodes on Wednesday, December 20, with the rest of the season to drop weekly installments.
This news dropped alongside a trailer featuring our first look at the trio in action as Percy (Walker Scobell), Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) face off against two Greek gods in their adaptation of Rick Riordan’s mythology series.
We’ve been expecting you.

The teaser gives us glimpses of Percy donning his Camp Half-Blood necklace as he arrives at the top of the Empire State Building to meet with the gods about a pesky lightning bolt that may have gone missing.
The video also introduces WWE Hall of Famer Adam Copeland as the God of War, Ares. As well as the beginnings of a particular god v.s. Demi-god showdown that book fans are eager to see come to life.
Throughout this first look, the trio of demi-gods and their quest are at the center of the action as Grover shows off his hooves and Annabeth her knife skills.
Additionally, we catch glimpses of the car crash that kicks off this journey as Sally Jackson’s voice introduces Percy to this new world.
Perhaps the best is saved for last as the trio faces an unknown figure offscreen, and although we cannot see Zeus (played by the late Lance Reddick), the fear he instills in the campers is evident as he bellows, “Percy Jackson, we’ve been expecting you.”

The December release will invoke disappointment from Camp Half-Blood die-hards, as the Percy Jackson books are famous for their summer camp setting.
However, this holiday release date could be a calculated move to ensure Disney+ has a full lineup during the ongoing strikes, as AMPTP has yet to offer SAG-AFTRA and the WGA fair deals.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been in production since June 2022. So the sooner fans get their hands on this highly-anticipated series, the quicker we have a more faithful, Rick Riordan-approved adaptation to devour.
Disney+ also confirmed brand deals for the mythology series will include a “product line of apparel, accessories, stationery, and tie-in books available this fall at Hot Topic, Box Lunch, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.”
So, it seems Percy Jackson is finally coming home to us, just in time for the Christmas holidays.
