Artemis and her band of warriors, known as the Hunters of Artemis, play an important role in Riordan’s third book, The Titan’s Curse. In the books, Artemis handpicks women who have sworn loyalty to her cause in the Hunt, granting them eternal youth and part-immortality.

Zoë Nightshade happens to be one of those women. It’s revealed in the book that she is also the daughter of the Titan Atlas, who carries the world on his shoulders. Zoë and the Hunters make their appearance early on, when Annabeth confronts the Manticore, only to be captured.

Throughout The Titan’s Curse, Zoë forms a respectable relationship with Bianca di Angelo to help her join the Hunters. It’s also revealed in this book that Artemis has also gone missing due to Kronos’ schemes.

Zoë, together with Bianca, Thalia, Grover, and another Hunter, Phoebe, embarks on a quest to find Artemis. That led them to fight the Nemean Lion, to Hephaestus’ leftover machinations, and Hoover Dam. When they eventually reach the Garden of the Hesperides, Zoë perhaps plays the most important role of all.

According to Variety, Artemis and Zoë’s roles on Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 are further described in detail.

“[Artemis] prefers the freedom of the outdoors to the politics and formality of Olympus,” Artemis’ character description reads. “Her immortal Hunters are her constant companions, and she has little contact with mortals, making her a bit out of touch with modern human culture.”

“She is a strong warrior and sometimes overly serious in ways that amuse the demigods, but she is also a crucial quest member, willing to strive and sacrifice for the good of all.”
