‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Won’t Let August Slip Away Without a Season 3 Renewal
The Summer I Turned Pretty isn’t letting August slip away without good news.
The teen drama received an early Season 3 renewal, with Prime Video greenlighting a 10-episode season. The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s third season will be two episodes longer than its sophomore outing, which contains eight episodes.
Based on the best-selling book trilogy by Jenny Han, The Summer I Turned Pretty is “a breakout success” on Prime Video. The streaming service shares that the show performs “particularly well with young women viewers,” and Season 2 “is one of the 10 most watched seasons of any series ever on the service.”

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 debuted with a three-episode premiere on Friday, July 14. Prime Video cites the season premiere with more than doubling Season 1’s viewership within three days of launch. The YA show debuted its entire seven-episode first season on Friday, June 17, 2022.
Prime Video greenlit The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 ahead of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The streaming service states explicitly that production on that season “will not begin until after labor negotiations with those unions have been resolved.” Jenny Han and Sarah Kucserka are the showrunners for Season 3.
“We’ve been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced The Summer I Turned Pretty, making Summer Fridays an entertainment phenomenon,” Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon, and MGM Studios, said.
“This charming, deeply heartfelt series has shown the breadth of our customer base, appealing to a young, diverse set of viewers. Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamoring for the third chapter of this story,” Sanders continued.

“We’re excited today to share the news that they have a lot more Summer to look forward to. Thank you to Jenny, Sarah Kucserka, and Karen Rosenfelt and our friends at wiip for their remarkable work and partnership,” Sanders concluded.
The multi-generational and coming-of-age drama set its Season 2 premiere date in May 2023, after its early renewal ahead of its series debut in June 2022. By August 2023, Prime Video announced that Kyra Sedgwick and Elsie Fisher would join the cast in recurring roles.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2’s first five episodes reveal Sedgwick as Julia, Susannah’s sister, and Fisher as Skye, Conrad and Jeremiah’s cousin. They join returning cast members of Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, David Iacono, Jackie Chung, and Rachel Blanchard.
Han, Kucserka, and Karen Rosenfelt executive produce, along with Hope Hartman, Mads Hansen, and Paul Lee for wiip. The Summer I Turned Pretty is a co-production of Amazon Studios and wiip.
