Has ‘Heartstopper’ Been Renewed?
Are you already missing Heartstopper?
Know that heartache won’t last forever because Netflix has already renewed the coming-of-age series for a third season.
As previously reported, the streaming service renewed Heartstopper for Seasons 2 and 3 in May 2022. The news came slightly less than a month after the first eight-episode season debuted on Netflix in April 2022.

The YA romantic drama’s sophomore season follows the highs and lows of Nick and Charlie’s early days of their relationship. Meanwhile, Tara and Darcy’s relationship encounters some unforeseen challenges, and Tao and Elle wonder if their friendship should become something more.
Not to mention, the gang takes their school trip to Paris, as seen in Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper, Volume 3. The series is based on her graphic novels, and they serve as the creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer of Heartstopper.
Nick comes out as bisexual to a group of friends in Paris before making his relationship with Charlie Instagram official during Heartstopper Season 2 Episode 8, “Perfect.” The season finale also sees Tao and Elle give their relationship the boyfriend/girlfriend label ahead of Higgs and Truham’s shared prom.
Set to Taylor Swift’s “seven,” the friends make Darcy feel at home after a tumultuous fight with her mother, and Isaac reads Angela Chen’s Ace to learn more about asexuality and aromanticism. Heartstopper Season 2 leaves fans with the cliffhanger of if Charlie will text Nick that he loves him after Nick nearly tells Charlie the same.

Heartstopper Season 2 stars Kit Connor as Nick Nelson, Joe Locke as Charlie Spring, Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent, William Gao as Tao Xu, Corinna Brown as Tara Jones, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy Olson, and Tobie Donovan as Isaac Henderson.
It also welcomes new cast members: Leila Khan, Jack Barton, Nima Taleghani, and Bradley Riches, as announced in September 2022, and Bel Priestly, Ash Self, and Thibault de Montalember, as reported in November 2022.
The season also features the return of Sebastian Croft as Ben, who has his last scene in the season finale, per Netflix’s TUDUM. Diverging from Oseman’s comics, where he appears only in Volume 1, Ben appears beyond the freshman season, but “Ben’s role in Heartstopper is now complete,” Oseman said.
“Alice and I both felt strongly about him [Ben] not having a redemption arc,” Croft told TUDUM while filming Season 2 in November 2022.

Beyond Croft’s departure, Oseman is keeping plot plans for Heartstopper Season 3 under wraps. “People who have read the comics will know what is going to happen but I don’t want to spoil it for people who haven’t been reading the comics,” Oseman told TUDUM earlier this month.
“I think [Season 2’s ending] just sets up that conversation for next season. We know that Charlie loves Nick, and I think we know that Nick loves Charlie as well. It’s just about when and how they’re going to say that to each other,” Oseman added.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio Wales, Heartstopper‘s director Euros Lyn provided more of a timeline. “Season three has been commissioned already, we’re very excited and are due to start work on it soon,” Lyn said.
Oseman expanded on how Heartstopper Season 3 is coming together in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I’ve started writing it right now. It’s very much underway. We did not expect to get a Season 3 renewal at the same time as Season 2 because that’s quite rare, to be honest,” Oseman shared.

“What that did do is it gave us more time to think about what’s gonna happen in Season 3. I could set things up safely in Season 2 knowing that we would be able to get to it in Season 3, which is not a luxury that I had in Season 1,” Oseman continued.
“I really wanted Season 1 to feel like it had an ending just in case we didn’t get any more. There’s truly nothing I hate more than a show that gets canceled on a cliffhanger,” Oseman concluded.
Thankfully, Heartstopper Season 2’s cliffhanger won’t be a final one, and it’s only a matter of time before fans reunite with Charlie, Nick, Tao, Elle, Darcy, Tara, Isaac, Imogen, and the rest of the gang.
See-Saw Films produces Heartstopper, and Patrick Walters serves as an executive producer on the show.
