Rabbit Hole Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Gilgamesh

Rabbit Hole, Reviews

Rabbit Hole Season 1 Episode 7, “Gilgamesh,” aims to demonstrate just how powerful Crowley could become if the shared data act passes, but unfortunately, this lesson is undermined due to an overstuffed episode where we’re also trying to decipher all the other twists and mind games that are going on.

We’ve got Weir’s seemingly declining mental state, Miles maybe being alive, and then Ben being a criminal mastermind. Rabbit Hole throws one scenario after another at us, and you’ve got to try to figure out what it all means.

There’s too much going on that you have to immediately dismiss some things in order to focus on trying to figure out if you’ve missed clues along the way on another potential twist.

Something that could’ve made this all work better is if Weir didn’t watch Miles’ video in this episode and if it ended with Crowley’s claim that Ben has been playing Weir all along.

Slowing everything down would have been a huge benefit here. There are enough twists going on that “Gilgamesh” wouldn’t have felt slow or boring as has been the case with other episodes this season. It would have just given the storyline and the twists room to breathe.

We would have the space to process if what Weir is showing us is reliable as well as mull over whether or not Miles could actually be alive — and if he’s not, then who is messaging Weir.

Then, we could spend part if not all of the following episode operating under the assumption that Ben’s the true bad guy. Maybe without everything being rushed, Crowley could’ve fooled us too.

With the team all amped up and ready to take down Crowley, the potential plot of the season finale is a little bit clearer.

The only thing they can reasonably accomplish in this timeframe is to stop the shared data act from passing. It won’t completely destroy Crowley, but it would be a decent setback to whatever nefarious plans he has. However, it won’t feel like a satisfying conclusion to the series.

What would help is if the FBI’s investigation into Weir and Edward’s “death” also were wrapped up, but it’s doubtful that all this can be accomplished in one episode.

So, unfortunately, let’s set our sights low and hope to be surprised. Do you have any hopes for the season finale?

Stray Thoughts
  • This show really doesn’t understand how to use flashbacks correctly.
  • I do appreciate Hailey asking what the point is if they can’t use everything they found in the safety deposit box because I have the same question.
  • Weir and Kevin’s interaction strangely brings me joy.
  • So is Madi playing her boss, or is she just power-hungry and has a vendetta against Weir?
