9-1-1 Season 6 Episode 13 Review: Mixed Feelings
What a packed hour for 9-1-1 Season 6 Episode 13, “Mixed Feelings.”
The main characters see a lot of action, with Buck obtaining new abilities and Eddie helping him put them to the test. Hen and Karen learn about Denny seeing his father. Meanwhile, Maddie, Chimney, Bobby, and Athena are investigating together.
The episode maintains a comedic tone, with a hint of seriousness as we drive into Denny’s secret visits to see his father. The show has always been good at demonstrating range, and this episode is no different.

Buck’s new “superpowers” kick off the episode.
Despite math not being a solid suit of Buck’s, these powers keep true to his character. He spends the episode finding joy in his new abilities and comforting someone with them.
Eddie is right there with him, reminding us of how close Buck is with not only him but also Christopher. The dynamic between the three has been special since Christopher was introduced, but episodes like this show how much of a family unit they have become.
It’s an important dynamic, especially in Buck’s ongoing arc about pursuing happiness and helping Connor have a baby.

The show has all but said that Buck is a parental figure to Christopher, even putting him as the caretaker to Christopher in Eddie’s will if anything happens to him.
There’s a lot of potential during this episode demonstrating how those two elements could come together in the future.
Meanwhile, Maddie and Chimney get to work with Athena and Bobby throughout this episode when their neighbor seems to be casing their house.
It’s rare to see these four in a scene together, and a nice change up from what is usually shown. They all handle the comedy of the situation well, especially Jennifer Love Hewitt, who faces the weird neighbor.
Bobby and Athena’s romance is still going strong. They continue to be a beautiful relationship that the show isn’t afraid to let have fun.

In the more serious notes of the hour, the Wilson family faces Denny sneaking off to see his biological father and the aftermath.
Aisha Hinds, Tracie Thoms, and Declan Pratt work well together and demonstrate the depths of their acting.
This situation is challenging for every person involved. It’s a big topic for the show to tackle as well. They do it well by relating it more to Hen’s struggle not having a father than by connecting it to how Hen and Karen are as parents.
There’s no doubt that Hen and Karen are good parents and doing right by Denny.

It’s natural for Denny to be curious and seek out things like this at his age, but he’s gone about it wrong, and Nathaniel should never have kept them in the dark about it.
Another unusual pairing on the episode is Denny and Chimney having a heart-to-heart over this all.
It’s been mentioned that the two have some form of relationship, but we are never shown context. The conversation is sweet and gives closure to the audience on Chimney not forgiving his dad as much as deciding to move on.
