Marvel's The Defenders New ‘Daredevil’ Series in Development for Disney+

New ‘Daredevil’ Series in Development for Disney+

Daredevil, News

The potential for the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen to revisit his stand-alone series is heating up!

Marvel Studios is reportedly in the process of developing a new Daredevil TV show for Disney+. The project would see Charlie Cox return to the small screen and reprise his role as crime-fighting lawyer Matt Murdock.

According to Variety, the creators of Covert Affairs, Matt Corman and Chris Ord, have signed on to write and executive-produce the show.

The news comes after months of speculation that Nelson and Murdock would reopen for business, this time on the Disney streaming platform.

Daredevil‘s long-fought battle to return to TV has been eventful. Netflix’s notorious Marvel reign came to an abrupt end in 2018 when Disney pulled rank on its Marvel Studios properties, forcing the cancellation of all The Defenders properties.

On March 1st, 2022, Netflix’s streaming license ended, and Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher made a move to Disney+.

Now free to use the characters, Disney wasted no time reintroducing our beloved Daredevil into the MCU. Vincent D’Onofrio reprised his role as Kingpin during Hawkeye‘s six-episode run, with Cox appearing shortly after as Peter Parker’s lawyer.

As for getting the old gang back together, the series is still in the early stages of development, and it’s yet to be seen if Karen and Foggy will join Matt in his return to Hell’s Kitchen.

Regardless, Marvel now has its hands on what is considered the best TV show in the franchise’s run. If any series will set the record straight on whether Disney+ can match Netflix’s caliber of television, it is Daredevil.

Perhaps that desire to recreate The Man Without Fear’s legacy is why we see more and more properties with direct connections to the vigilante, like Echo and She-Hulk, debuting in Phase 4.
