Emmy Rossum Takes on Real-Life L.A. Legend Angelyne on New Peacock Series

News

Angelyne is an iconic figure in L.A. I lived in Los Angeles for ten years and had three very exciting Angelyne sightings. She’s not hard to miss, but still feels very elusive …like Bigfoot.

A series based on the blonde bombshell seemed inevitable given her unique fame and pretty-in-hot-pink persona. Peacock will bring her story to the screen in an unauthorized limited series aptly named, Angelyne, starring Emmy Rossum as the titular character.

“It’s not a straight forward biopic,” says showrunner and executive producer Allison Miller. “It’s a story inspired by everything Angelyne represents, and so it’s a magical story, a hopeful story, a story about becoming the person you were meant to be and believing in your own inner strength to manifest your dreams.”

Angelyne’s colorful long-lasting fame has everything to do with the woman herself and society’s fascination with celebrity in all its forms. Pre-dating the rise of the modern influencer, Angelyne created a brand and hustled to make a name for herself in the City of Angels.

Who could forget her cameo in the wacky 1988 alien romcom, Earth Girls Are Easy, starring Geena Davis, Jeff Goldblum, and then unknown Jim Carrey, or when the buxom babe also branched out into politics in 2003 to run for Governor of California, and then again as a candidate to replace Gavin Newsom during the 2021 gubernatorial recall.

There are lots of comedic and dramatic bits from which to draw, and for Rossum, it’s a passion project. The Shameless star “spent the better part of 4 years thinking, living, and breathing this project,” which is produced by her production company, Composition 8.

“I love Angelyne,” Rossum asserts. “She’s as if Marilyn Monroe got into an easy bake oven with a 80s punk Barbie Doll, and a dose of new age spirituality. She’s a trailblazer, a hustler, a visionary, the original influencer, a living-breathing piece of art.”
