A First Look at Voicemails for Isabelle on Netflix
Love and grief unknowingly strike again in the first look at Netflix’s upcoming film, Voicemails for Isabelle.
The original film follows Jill, who leaves voicemails for her deceased sister as a way of coping. These voicemails, which chronicle Jill’s chaotic San Francisco life, are received by Wes, a real estate agent who’s assigned the number of Jill’s sister.
What ensues is a “coming together” of two unlikely lovers united by Jill’s timely messages. Voicemails for Isabelle is set to release on Friday, June 19, on Netflix.

Voicemails for Isabelle focuses on the long-distance connection created by today’s technology. “Voicemails cannot be edited or rewritten,” writer-director Leah McKendrick said, per Netflix TUDUM.
“They’re usually messy, awkward, inarticulate — sometimes confessional. Like a stream of consciousness, they always go a little off the rails.”
Although Voicemails for Isabelle primarily follows the relationship between Jill and Wes, the emotional core develops through Jill and Isabelle’s sisterhood.
These two have been best friends since they were kids, sharing a bedroom when they were young. They also shared “everything from first kiss mishaps to dessert recipes and, above all else, a love of Top Chef,” per Netflix TUDUM.

Voicemails for Isabelle stars Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson as lovebirds Jill, an “aspiring pastry chef”, and Wes, the “enigmatic real estate agent.”
The film also stars Harry Shum Jr., Lukas Gage, Ciara Bravo, Nick Offerman, Megan Danso, Gil Bellows, Toby Sandeman, and Spencer Lord.
McKendrick also went into detail about how she worked alongside the cast of her upcoming film. “If this were middle school, Lukas and Zoey would have to be separated. They make each other laugh uncontrollably,” McKendrick said.

“I think we all want to believe that what makes us most special — most us — is that which cannot be seen,” McKenrick described.
“We all contain our own invisible, magic cocktail of heart and humor and whimsy and favorite movie quotes.”
McKendrick has both a creative and acting role in the upcoming film.
Voicemails for Isabelle was directed and written by Leah McKendrick. The film is produced by Todd Black, Becky Sanderman, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and executive produced by Galen Fletcher and David Bloomfield.
