Dynasty Review: Go Catch Your Horse (Season 5 Episode 4)
Fallon dips her toes in the philanthropy game on Dynasty Season 5 Episode 4, “Go Catch Your Horse.”
“Go Catch Your Horse” is a decent episode that further develops Fallon and Liam’s storylines, both individual and relationship, but essentially fails with others.
After the brutal awakening that returning to work is no longer an option, Fallon enlists Sam’s help to find her new calling – something that establishes her as a good person.
Like the good friend he is, Sam drops everything to help her, leading to the realization that she wants to expand her life in more fulfilling ways, and Philanthropy is the perfect opportunity. However, the greed, pettiness, and desire to outdo others lead her to lose sight of the bigger picture.

In typical Fallon Carrington fashion, she quickly falls into old habits upon meeting one of her old rivals – Patricia de Vilbis.
Granted, Patty is the first one to instigate the drama, bringing up their long-running feud from their early days of horse racing. But, in Fallon’s attempt to become a better individual, she needs to work on not being so easily angered and goaded.
Sam’s general sense of calm, serenity, and healthy doses of reality is the voice of reason that pulls her back to reality – as usual. If Fallon wants to grow as a person, there must be an effort put in, and she can’t continue to backtrack like normal, especially when enlisting the help of those closest to her.
With a little tough love from Sam, Fallon remembers her intentions and ceases the petty rivalry in the end. If she’s going to become someone who’s recognized as more than just a CEO or oil heiress, it’s time for her to change the narrative around her, including squashing all non-essential beef.

Minimizing Sam’s storyline to utilize him in the bigger picture for Fallon is where the episode falls short.
It’s still very early in the season, so there’s no telling what’s in store for Sam’s character, but it needs to be worthwhile. Where Kirby has had quite a few substantial and memorable past storylines – one that’s even touched upon in this episode – Sam has not, besides his adventures with Steven and his drunken marriage to Ryan.
After Steven’s departure from the series, Sam has only had one entertaining storyline, and it’s time that changes. The problem with most storylines that tend to fall in his lap is that they either have nothing to do with the bigger picture, they don’t stick, or both.
Sam is one of the only characters, along with Fallon and Blake, to appear in every episode of Dynasty, with basically nothing to show for it. I’m not saying he hasn’t had substantial character growth throughout the series because he certainly has. But he’s at a standstill.
An exciting concept not explored for Sam yet is the possibility of him furthering his education. As a natural empath and someone who takes pride in helping those around him, he already works as a therapist for his friends. I think he would excel in an area that involves assisting people in living healthier lives.

Whatever is in the works for Sammy, I hope it’s meaningful and not another lackluster, meaningless storyline that goes nowhere.
As I mentioned earlier, Kirby has had many a chaotic storyline, but at least hers seem consistent and relevant to her character. Besides the drug usage, I enjoyed her past work as a model and think she would excel in the business again. She knows how to work around a deal, has contacts, and can walk the house down.
Kirby has had exponential growth, so I doubt she’d need someone to accompany her to the shows. However, it would be a bright idea for someone who has her back to be near in the off-chance she has temptations to slip up or is pressured.
If Dominique wants to take her fashion international, she needs a new face, and Kirby would fit the role exceptionally. With Kirby’s expertise and Dominque’s design skills, the two would be a force to be reckoned with.
I, however, also wouldn’t mind Kirby teaming up with Amanda in her covert mission to end Adam. As I state in my review for “How Did the Board Meeting Go,” the two would make for great comedy. Their personalities fit together well, and even in the few time they’ve spent together, they’ve proven to be a fun pairing.
In the long run, “Go Catch Your Horse” is an okay episode but could do better with its character progression. What interests me the most is what will happen between Liam and Fallon now that she’s made it known she wants children. Many times, Liam has made it known that he does not and will never want kids, so I foresee them struggling in the future.
Other Thoughts:
- It brings me the utmost joy to know that Felisha Terrell will be making future cameos this season. She is an exceptional actress, and I would love to see her spend a substantial amount of time on the show.
- It’s so slight, but Jeff’s nod at Kirby to check if she’s about to ruin her sobriety is so wholesome. He doesn’t have to speak, but he does care about her well-being, and it’s just a sweet moment.
- The lack of Adam is magnificent – if only the episode had used the precious time with him away in a meaningful manner.
- Cristal’s storyline isn’t uninteresting; it just hasn’t pulled me in yet. The only thing I’ve found enjoyable about it so far is that Alexis almost ruins Fake Cristal’s play within thirty seconds of meeting. If she’s going to take her act full-time, she needs to work on her improv.
- Unfortunately, I’m one of the many who has not binged the original series and therefore don’t know the extent of Dex’s involvement with Alexis. But I don’t sense all good vibes from him. Alexis does not have a good track record of picking decent men.
- While it may not fit into Fallon’s new lifestyle, I hope we haven’t seen the last of Patty.
Favorite Quotes:
- “I don’t model anymore. It’s just not something I’m interested in. You know, been there, done that. I don’t even read Vogue.” – Kirby.
- “See you on the auction floor, bitch.” – Patty.
