Snowpiercer Sneak Peek: Melanie Finally Returns [Exclusive]

Jennifer Connelly finally returns to Snowpiercer as Melanie after a season (mostly) away. 

On Snowpiercer Season 3 Episode 9, “A Beacon For Us All”, Melanie is back on the train, in the flesh, after only appearing this season as a hallucination. During Season 2, the character left the train circling the frozen Earth to find a place for humanity to recolonize.

It was initially thought that Melanie had run out of resources and had walked into the Freeze to die. However, it was then revealed that she was sending the train signals, indicating that she’s still alive. 

This prompted a change in course for the train to find the last place Melanie was sending signals from.

Layton (Daveed Diggs) is visiting Melanie, who’s in what looks like a hospital bed. There’s no telling what condition she’ll be in when she’s found. Clearly, there is still a lot for these two to work out after everything they’ve been through. When speaking about past betrayals, Layton tells Melanie, “We’ll tally all of it up one of these days.”

The two briefly discuss the ethics of Layton lying to the train’s passengers, leading them to believe in a so-called ‘New Eden.’ Clearly, this particular story isn’t done for the season.

Although Melanie says she can understand lying as a way to protect the train’s passengers from the truth, she reminds Layton that by lying, he has effectively taken away their power.

These two have a complicated history, to say the least. The season’s penultimate episode may give us a resolution to some things, but open the door to whole new stories and dynamics.
