Dynasty Review: How Did the Board Meeting Go? (Season 5 Episode 3)

Dynasty, Reviews

It’s a new beginning for Fallon on Dynasty Season 5 Episode 3, “How Did the Board Meeting Go?”

After her revival from a coma, Fallon focuses on the essential things in life; family, friends, and her baby – aka her business.

If there’s one thing to be known about Fallon, it’s her love for business and ability to prioritize it over everything else. Business and how to be the perfect business entrepreneur have been engrained in her since a young age. Fallon may need to improve upon other areas in her life, but she knows how to run a business.

For that reason alone, Fallon Carrington cannot simply take no for an answer. Backing down without a fight is not in Fallon’s nature, and with Liam at her beck and call, hilarity ensues in her attempt to one-up Ellen and the board members of Fallon Unlimited.

Fallon’s idea to hide in the ceiling and use Liam as her voice is genius at first glance. But she fails to factor in the idea of rodents living in the attic, leading to the hysterical moment of Fallon falling through the roof. And while her intentions are good-spirited, it ends with her on permanent medical leave.

Legally, Fallon cannot access any of her work accounts, paperwork, or even appear on the premises until a doctor clears her.

The Dynasty writers are setting up what could be one of the most entertaining storylines that Fallon has seen in the series. With Fallon’s work access revoked and her CEO position on the table, there’s nothing in the way of her finding herself.

All she’s ever known is business and the overwhelming pressure to follow in her father’s footsteps. Now, it’s time she rediscovers her side that isn’t focused on her job. I want to see her explore herself to the fullest extent and find something else in life that she enjoys besides business.

Appointing Jeff as the new CEO of Fallon Unlimited is an intelligent move on Fallon’s part. Jeff is well-educated in the world of business, and there are no safer hands for her company while she’s indisposed.

With Jeff’s fallout from the Colby Co Space fiasco, nobody is interested in working with him. He has to prove himself worthy in their eyes in some way.

While he isn’t engrossed with the idea of being CEO at first, it’s in his best interest as well. It allows Jeff to prove to other companies that he’s back in the game, still someone of value, and better than ever.

The only backfire I see occurring from the situation is the drama that could ensue between Fallon and Jeff. Either she’s going to stick to her word and focus on herself, allowing Jeff to run the company how he sees fit. Or, she will be bombarding him for status updates on things occurring in the office.

It’ll be interesting to see the limits she gives Jeff when making permanent decisions for the company.

Amanda succeeds in releasing Alexis from jail with the help of a “Peeping Tom,” that is revealed to be Farnsworth Dexter’s nephew. But, before her release, she one up’s Adam and manipulates him into signing over his rights to the anti-aging drug he’s been working on.

In a glorious moment that feels like Alexis might indeed be done with Adam (finally), she reverts to her unexplainable ways of forgiveness. Instead of kicking Adam to the curb and running the company herself, she keeps him on as co-partner. She even renames it to Alexam, which is essentially their names mixed.

Alexis may still be on the Adam train, but hopefully, with a little more of Amanda’s digging, she can bury him once and for all. Metaphorically, of course.

Amanda and Kirby’s impromptu team-up brings forth my favorite moment on “How Did the Board Meeting Go?”

Kirby: I’m bored, I don’t have a job, and the idea of hunting for a peeping tom sounds far more thrilling than rewatching Season 21 of Celebrity Intervention.

Amanda: Wait, the one with Natasha?

Kirby: Oh my god, yes. So good.

Amanda: It’s so good.

Pitting Kirby with Amanda in a long-term storyline would be an entertaining and fabulous choice. The two have a fun dynamic and play off each other hilariously. Kirby spending the evening with Amanda doesn’t feel like it’s supposed to have any significant meaning behind it, but I love it nonetheless.

Elsewhere, Cristal is being held captive by her psychotic brother, Beto. Following the original Dynasty‘s Krystle storyline, but with a twist, Beto is using a body double to get his company back. Cristal stole what is rightfully his in his eyes, and no matter what, he’s going to get it back.

In Cristal’s mind, she believes that Blake will tell the difference between the two. But, if the first interactions between Blake and not-Cristal are any indication, Cristal may be spending quite a while tied up this season.

Dynasty is a show that has issues with properly allocating screentime and adequate storylines, and it’s trying its best to fix the problem. This episode’s only three characters with minimal character or storyline progression are Kirby, Sam, and Culhane.

Unfortunately, these three characters have been at the mercy of storylines with no real substance for the past two seasons. So, my expectations for season 5 are at an all-time low when it comes to them getting anything juicy.

Culhane’s newfound desire for a stable relationship could lead to some exciting scenes, but it feels bare and too tame right now.

In the long run, “How Did the Board Meeting Go?” is a fun welcome back to Dynasty and does an impeccable job of setting the season up.

Other Thoughts:

  • “I’ve worked way too hard for this” triggers something in me that makes me wish I could slap characters through my television screen.
  • Felisha Terrell’s cameo as Nina had me screaming at my screen. As a fan who fell in love when I first saw her on Teen Wolf back in 2013, it’s fantastic seeing her make appearances on my other favorite shows. I hope we get to see more of Nina throughout season 5.
  • With Dexter’s introduction to the series, it seems as if Alexis’ next great love story is on the horizon. If it follows the original Dynasty in any way, that is.
  • Elizabeth Gillies and Maddison Brown’s outfits in this episode are absolutely spectacular!
