Chicago Fire Review: The Missing Piece (Season 10 Episode 15)
Every once in a while, Firehouse 51 goes through some changes to keep things fresh. On Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 15, “The Missing Piece,” those changes are all positive.
On the one hand, this episode brings that feeling of apprehension as temporary members come and go through those hallowed doors in order to fill the open spot left behind by Lieutenant Pelham. On the other, we know that nothing major is ever going to shake this team, this family.
Honestly, “The Missing Piece” gives Lieutenant Kidd her moment to shine and really come into her own as a leader of Truck 81.
Different Types of Firefighter

As always, Mouch is there to serve the purpose of putting the fun into a tense situation. After all, none of these guys really want to see change happening to their already well-oiled machine.
However, with Mouch’s commentary on each of the new temps, we find ourselves smiling and remembering that despite who comes in, the old favorites will still be there. If we think about it, Gallo himself was once a temporary recruit trying to find his way into a permanent spot at 51.
It’s funny to see Gallo react so strongly to the first recruit because on the surface she really is a great firefighter. But, as Mouch puts it, she is a Gallo, which makes us all laugh because like Gallo we thought he was one-of-a-kind.
The boy scout recruit doesn’t threaten us because the moment he doesn’t partake in some light ribbing we know he’s not 51 material. This family needs someone who will follow the rules but also know how to relax and joke a little — this guy isn’t that in the slightest.
Herrmann’s Suggestion

One of the reasons I personally love Herrmann is because he’s the dad of the group. He is always looking out for everyone else and is quick to give people a fighting chance.
That is what makes his interference with Mason so special. Kidd might not see it at first because she is so laser focused on making the right decision for the team, but we do.
From the moment he first approaches her about Mason, we know Herrmann won’t rest until Mason is given a fair shot. Herrmann knows that the firehouse needs a personality that is similar to what Casey gave it, and he knows that Mason is the man they need.
What’s even better is that Herrmann is never flashy about it when he’s right about someone. He always takes his win in the background and smiles because he knows that he has done something special for 51.
It’s going to be really hard to replace Herrmann if he ever retires because that man is actually one-of-a-kind. Until then, we will continue to bask in what he has to offer us because we love to see it play out.
Brett’s Decision

Honestly, I saw this coming the moment Casey left to go to Portland. It isn’t plausible for Casey to be there while Brett is in Chicago, and they stay together.
It’s easy to see that they cared enough about each other that a breakup wasn’t in the cards right away, but unless Brett makes her visit to Casey permanent, it could be on the horizon.
The best choice for Brett, her character, and her relationship would be to have her go on this indefinite time off and make it a permanent one. Sure, Chicago has been her home for many years now, but in that whole time, she wasn’t as happy as she was with Casey.
Give this girl a break and let her go off into the sunset of happiness. Yes, Brett will be missed in Chicago, but not too terribly because we will know that she is making a life with Casey, which is what she deserves.
Stray Thoughts:
- They keep bringing Severide back into the fray of OFI. The show needs to either have him join or limit the amount of time he helps them
- I’m so proud of Kidd — she is already killing it as a Lieutenant.
