Hightown Renewed for Season 3 at Starz
Starz has renewed the Cape Cod-set drama series Hightown for a third season. The announcement came after the show’s second season concluded in late December 2021.
“Hightown is such an incredible show, and we could not be happier that it’s been renewed for a third season,” Kathryn Busby, Starz’s president of original programming, said.
“We are excited to return to Cape Cod to see our iconic characters battle their past mistakes as well as new foes in the dangerous underworld that lies beneath this idyllic setting,” Busby continued.
Created by Rebecca Cutter, the series stars Monica Raymond as Jackie Quinones, a Marine Fisheries agent turned police officer who works to confront the opioid crisis in Cape Cod while battling addiction herself. It also stars James Badge Dale, Riley Voelkel, Amaury Nolasco, Atkins Estimond, and Dohn Norwood.
The second season of Hightown focused on the contrast between the idyllic, picture-perfect version of Cape Cod that so often clashes with its dark reality. It also continued exploring Quinones’ journey to being a real cop and making it her mission to confront the opioid epidemic concretely.
Hightown is a powerful, queer-led drama with an important message about the real devastation drugs and addictions bring to individuals and communities. The second season leaves the door wide open for more stories with these characters.
Cutter and Raymond also directed several episodes in the show’s second season. In addition, Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rachel Morrison (Black Panther, Mudbound) also directed two episodes in the latest season.
Hightown is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer TV and Lionsgate TV.
