First Look at ‘Midnight Mass’
Since The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, horror fans have eagerly awaited Mike Flanagan’s latest work. It arrives in the form of the Netflix series Midnight Mass, staring Zach Gilford and Hamish Linklater.
Though Midnight Mass is separate from Flanagan’s previous acclaimed series, it promises to embrace a similar style and dedication to quality storytelling. The presence of an intriguing plot, dramatically engaging writing, and morally complex characters have become hallmarks of these tales.
Flanagan himself says that the show “is [his] favorite project so far” and draws from his past as “a former alter boy about to celebrate 3 years of sobriety.” This religious tone features heavily in a series trailer recently released by Netflix.
Though all of Flanagan’s work highlights the pulse-pounding nature of its genre, there are deeper elements at play as well. The plot twists carry emotional weight and powerful performances invest viewers in the tragic backstories of the characters involved.
The secrets of Crockett Island and the events that befall it will play out through the seven-episode run of Midnight Mass. Elements both supernatural and deeply human are likely to shock, move, and leave fans talking long after the final credits roll,
