The Resident Review: After the Storm (Season 4 Episode 11)
Chastain is in the eye of a tornado on The Resident Season 4 Episode 11, “After the Storm.” So imagine our disappointment upon realizing that the episode is utterly boring.
It relies on two of the most common medical drama storylines to propel it forward, and neither of them are executed well at all.
We all know the ending of the story when doctors are trapped in a location during a storm with a patient who needs brain surgery. Leela’s dyslexia only adds more complexity to the situation.

Don’t get me wrong, Leela deserves the win. But from the moment Ted insists on finishing the electrical work he is doing when she tells him to evacuate, we know his fate down to the very fact that he will survive.
This is the laziest plot of the episode, especially because Devon just happens to go into the room when he sees Leela.
Tropes can guide stories but they ultimately need to be spiced up to be successful. The Resident fails to add the right flavor anywhere.
Piper and Wes’s storyline is another example of this. We know they are not just transporting Sammy to the hospital from the moment Irving says their names.

There is nothing unique about their relationship to endear us to Piper and Wes, given these are paramedics we have only seen on one episode in four seasons. They have opposite ways of thinking, but so what? That is just about the oldest trope about professional partners in TV history.
I want to like and care about Piper but unfortunately, no details about her life do her story any favors. She is a realist with a dog. Yawn.
Quirks are what make us care about these characters, especially the minor ones. The quirkiest characters on this episode are Conrad and Nick with their growing family of one human baby and several chick babies — it’s a hard hour to get through.
Sammy and Jake’s connection is as predictable as the rest of the storylines, but she is sweet so she gets a pass.

He is obviously going to adopt her with his husband eventually, but she deserves a family that will love her and not drop her like she is a hot potato. Those “parents” should be ashamed of themselves. So, I’m eager to watch her get a happy ending, regardless of if I see it coming a mile away.
It’s also clear that The Raptor is in for some heartbreak from the fact that he does not send Mina a heart emoji during their final text conversation of the episode.
Minator’s official breakup is inevitable, as we now know. The Resident should rip the band-aid off as fast as possible with this. What is the point of putting us all through more pain than necessary?
