TV News Wrap-Up: 72nd Primetime Emmys Goes Virtual, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Actor Moves to ‘Station 19,’ Netflix Acquires Rights to Seven Black Sitcoms
It’s been a week of big television headlines.
Dozens of employees have accused executive producers of The Ellen DeGeneres Show of sexual misconduct, Jeffery Epstein’s lawyer is demanding an apology for an episode of The Good Fight, and numerous shows were snubbed by the Emmy nominations this year.

Grey’s Anatomy promotes two cast members to series regulars and moves one of Station 19, plus three other castmembers re-negotiate contracts.
- Two guest stars from Grey’s Anatomy Season 16, Anthony Hill, and Richard Flood, will be joining Grey Sloan memorial as regular cast members.
- Stefania Spampinato, who plays Carina DeLuca, is almost moving to Station 19, where she will be a regular. Read more about the cast upgrades and changeovers right here.
- Deadline also reported this week, that Kim Raver, Kevin McKidd, and Camilla Luddington have all closed deals to continue on the ABC drama.
- Raver, McKidd, and Luddington’s deals are reportedly for three years.

Michael Shannon boards Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers.
- Variety reports that Shannon will join Melissa McCarthy, Nicole Kidman, Manny Jacinto, Luke Evans, and Tiffany Boone.
- Shannon will play Napoleon, who is simply described as “one of the titular strangers.”
- The show is the latest novel by Laine Moriarty to be adapted for television and reunites most of the team behind another Moriarty adaptation Big Little Lies.
Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown to produce and star in Netflix’s adaptation of The Girls I’ve Been; Jason Bateman to produce.
- With both Ozark and Stranger Things receiving Emmy nods, Deadline reports that the streamer is looking to stay in business with two leads from the respective shows.
- Millie Bobby Brown is set to star in the film which will be adapted from Tess Sharpe’s novel of the same name, and Bateman’s production company is set to produce.
- The movie is said to be an “…exhilarating thriller centering around a con artist, Nora, who must use her powers of persuasion and impersonation to get herself, her girlfriend, and ex-boyfriend free during a hostage situation at a bank.”

Damon Wayan’s Jr. to star in Peacock’s bounty hunter series.
- Deadline reports that the series is part of an extended deal with Wayan Jr.’s Two Snakes Entertainment.
- The series is described as “…action comedy [revolving] around a struggling married couple who become bounty hunters.”
The 31st GLAAD Media winners have been announced via a Facebook live stream.
- GLAAD Media Awards honor “…the fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues.”
- TV Line reports that Netflix led the pack with 15 nominations including Dear White People, One Day at a Time, and Sex Education.
- HBO followed with eight nominations.
- Broadcast networks ABC, CBS, and NBC, each landed four nominations each.
- Notable winners include Schitt’s Creek, who took home the award for Outstanding Comedy Series and Pose which brought home the Outstanding Drama Series award.
Sister, Sister and Moesha are among the 90s Black comedies that are heading to Netflix.
- TV Line reports that the streamer has acquired the rights to seven classic Black 90s shows.
- Additional titles in the acquisition include Girlfriends, Half & Half, The Parkers, One and One, and the first three seasons of The Game.
- The announcement of release was made with a video that included 30 former stars from these iconic series.
- Up until now, the series have been largely unavailable to stream in their entirety. Until now only select episodes of Girlfriends and all nine seasons of The Game were available on CW Seed with commercials.
Netflix has renewed Money Heist for a fifth and final season.
- The Spanish crime drama took off after the third installment appeared on Netflix.
- Part 5 begins filming on August 3rd in Denmark and will later move to Spain and Portugal.
- It’s expected that Part 5 will drop on Netflix in 2021.

The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards will be held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.
- Along with the nominations announcements made Tuesday, the Emmy’s have announced that they will be going virtual.
- Variety reports that a letter was sent to the nominees detailing plans for the telecast.
- More details will be forthcoming as the date for the show approaches, but the letter states that they are, “exploring the cutting edge of technology to allow to use good cameras and lighting and look forward to working with you to produce your unique ‘on screen’ moments.”
